Black Olive Columbus, Ohio

After an afternoon of shopping the Short North, Ms. 5chw4r7z wanted to ty out the restaurant that replaced her favorite coffee shop at Buttles and N. High. We rolled right in when they opened the doors at 5 and had the place to ourselves, pretty sweet deal, that doesn't happen very often, plus they have food specials when the Buckeyes are in town, so we got some awesome food on the cheap, can't beat that.

  3. If had to choose, I would pick Bodega over the Black Olive, but you never know until you try right.

  4. You seem to have a bit higher class taste than we do, but that burger made me remember the burger I had while in Columbus back in July- at Thurmans... we waited for 45 minutes or so, to be seated in the tiny bar area, and had two of the most amazing burgers I've ever tasted.... anyway - http://www.thethurmancafe.com/

  5. Thanks dean, and don't think we're that big of snobs, diner at Black Olive cost us $26 with drinks!
    How'd you like that.
You have to try the Banana bean, its on Greenlawn right off 71, you have to drive past it to get to The Thurman, and thanks for the tip, we're hitting that sometime.

  6. REALLY? Comparing Bodega to Black Olive? Bodega sucks! Anyone could create their food at home, all you need is a George Forman Grill to smash the sandwich while it grills. Bad service from servers with an attitude. Sticking with Black Olive!!!

  7. For Randy Simes.. that is not Bob Marley across the street that is a picture of Jesus next to the Paul Robinett store on buttles.

Bodega is good for bloody mary's on sundays and half off beers but the food is not that great. Betty's has a fun atmosphere and its historical, buy really their food isn't exceptional. Every time I go there (and i keep going back to try new things) nothing has been great about the food.

Lets face it, the Short North is full of restaurants with no food quality and filled with people, not for the food, but to be seen. I have actually been to Black Olive a couple times. To me, it way better than going to Haiku for just ok sushi, Bodega's for grilled cheese (with only one slice of cheese), Betty's for a bland greek pasta or plain wraps, Marcella's for a costly cheese plate and bad italian(good wine though), or cup of joe for terrible service. Burgandy room has great wine but the food is not good.

P.S. love press grill and short north tavern!!

  8. thanks for the comments.
I have to say, last time I was at Bodega I was disappointed.
Black Olive was good for the price 1/2 off.
    Next in C-Bus for 5chw4r7z, Thurman's.

  9. I love Black Olive. It's one of my favorite restaurants in the Short North. The corner of Buttles and High seems so ideal, but so many businesses have struggled. I hope to see them hang around. The sweet potato fries and the henessy pomegranite martini sidecar are among my favorites on the menu.
