to live and die in Cin-say

Smitty's burned and it looks like another continuos block of historic buildings is gone to be replaced by a parking lot, how many years will we be stuck with that? If the streetcar isn't build, probably decades. I never got around to setting foot in Smitty's but it breathed life into that section of Vine, lighting it up like mid day for most of the night. You can't underestimate what a presence like that does for a neighborhood and now its gone. There's plans underway to somehow save the buildings or even the facades, but from what I can see from the street it doesn't look good.

Cincinnati, a living breathing city, there is going to be non stop change, good and bad, we can only hope to keep tipping the balance towards good. On the opposite side of downtown, the riverfront work on the Banks and Queen City SquareII continues providing hope and enthusiasm for new life and vibrancy downtown.

and so the sun sets on another chapter of Cincinnati history. but it will rise again. life goes on.

Party in the Park

Your standard fair, its a party, its in a park on the river. Theres bands, music and some beer. But everyWednesday you're also almost guaranteed to see something unusual, spectacular or sublime. The hula hoop guy was missing last night, but we stumbled upon a couple local bartenders practicing for a competition. One from Argosy and one from Mynt. Then I instantly forgot their names, sorry guys.

Cigar Tweet

Something about those clear crisp winter evenings, the bite in the air makes the beer taste just that much better doesn't it?
But this is the end of April for cryin out loud!
Cigar Tweet
Didn't stop us from hangin out at the Beer Sellar for The Party Source cigar tasting. The featured Cigars were some big boys thats for sure, 52 - 60 ring gauge, for you neophytes out there, thats about the size of a lead pipe in your house.
Do they still have lead pipes? I may be dating myself here.

Watch This The French Connection

The latest installment of Watch This is down to #70 The French Connection filmed in 1971.
The film editing was crude by today's standards, the plot was rough and tended to jump around and the whole thing ended abruptly. By today's standards, high school kids with a cell phone could produce a better movie, and most of the people reviewing the movie seemed to dislike it.

Watch This The French Connection

BUT, taken in the context of 1971, The French Connection set the standard for cop movies and almost every cop film since follows the same formula. The rogue cop who got a fellow officer killed whom no one wants to work with. They stumble upon a case. It gets endorsed by the top brass, there's a car chase, a shoot out, it all ends badly and the criminals make out better than the cops did.
I liked it, and I want Popeye Doyle's hat.

SUSHI RAMPAGE!!!

Good things are cheap.
Japanese proverb

Not exactly cheap, but definately not expensive it didn't require a second mortgage at least.
Out with everyone again on a Friday night doesn't get much better than a table full of sushi does it?

Tarbell's hat

After the Gryffindor Sorting Hat Jim Tarbell's top hat may be the next most famous in the world. With running for County Commissioner and everything, Jim and his hat have been making seperate appearances to squeeze everything in.
Recently a bunch us gathered for a Top Hat tweetup, sadly due to other obligations, I didn't get to see Mr Tarbell, but I did hang out with his hat.

Happy Anniversary XVII

New Years Eve

Happy Anniversary to my beautiful wife.

I don't want to wonder
If this is a blunder
I don't want to worry whether
We're GOING TO stay together
'Till we die

I don't want to jump in
Unless this music's thumping
All the dishes rattle in the cupboards
When the elephants arrive

I want to love you madly
I want to love you now
I want to love you madly, ouais
I want to love you, love you
Love you madly

OTR Burger Salvation

Spontaneity has a way of making good things great.
Like that time you went out for a quick drink at Party in the Park and woke up three days later in Rabbit Hash missing a sock and shoe.
We where just there for a quick drink which by the end of the evening morphed into a 4 hour dinner.
I'm not complaining, un contraire, I had to pinch myself a few times that I was actually eating dinner with two fascinating food bloggers, the CincinnatiNomerati and Epi-Ventures.

A whole discussion around the best burger in Cincinnati. I still have to go with Terry's at #1 and a Big N' Tasty slots in down around 6 or 7 probably.
But kinda like Vincent said "That's a pretty f#@king good burger" except he didn't say burger, but you get the point.
