Final Friday March edition

Whats the old saw, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a.... Stark Dire wolf!
yeah, I think that's how it goes.
Once every three or for months a Final Friday comes along that that raises the bar, and this one one of those.
One of the events I was looking forward to was Anthony "Tank" Mansfield's opening at Rock Paper Scissors "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" Tank has been doodling these small drawings forever and blew them all out the door in one single event. It was all pretty cool.
(I should mention there are still some left, $5 each)

And then of course the annual reopening of Streetpops
Final friday and I'll Sleep When I'm dead
Holtman's Coffee & Donuts Popsicle? STFU!!
Final friday and I'll Sleep When I'm dead
And The Red Door Project where artists from all over Cincinnati come together to create a piece of art in any mixed media; found objects, drawing, painting and photography based on the theme of the month.

its Uber

We're not line standers.
We don't go with the flow.
When people zig we zag.
And thats how we found ourselves at the Uber launch party held at Igby's while everyone else crammed into the "best" party.
The thing about a small intimate party of course is there are no lines for drinks and you can talk to everyone you want to talk to. And one of the people I talked to was Meggie Brennan who is Uber's Community Manger for the entire US. She's like the Alex Shebar of Uber.
Except better smelling.
And since I had her ear I thought of a conversation I had with Randy at UrbanCincy over who owned the cars, Uber or the drives. I found out that Uber definitely does not own the vehicles.
Meggie also told me they have around 50 cars running in Cincinnati and are looking to expand. That should give some comfort to the complaints that there is never a car available.
Oh, don't need a fancy black car? Try uberX
uberX includes ride sharing, with prices up to 30% cheaper than a taxi. Drivers on uberX have mid-range or hybrid vehicles in a variety of styles, with seating for up to four people.
Other than that it was the usual product launch, free flowing drinks, a presentation, more free flowing drinks followed by a quick Uber ride home.
Happy Uber-ing and remember to use promo code 69x0p for a $20 credit off your first ride.

The Vontz Center for Molecular Studies

I hear lots of stories, rumors and hearsay about The Vontz so I pulled a quote off the internet from galinsky. It was on the internet so it has to be true.

It has been said that the building was originally intended to be finished in a reflective surface, much like Gehry's Guggenheim Museum, but due to cost brick had to be used. If this is true, it may very well have been a happy accident, since the curvature of the walls is further accented by the bricks, and the more familiar material with its inherent color seem to have pleased the local population. The use of brick also ties the building in nicely with surrounding medical buildings in this portion of the campus, which are almost all finished in similar brick.
"pleased the local population" cracks me up, The Vontz challenges preconceptions of what a building is. And most of the people I work with aren't up for that challenge.

Five Point Alley: Community Visioning Open House

The Walnut Hills Redevelopment Foundation, Walnut Hills and the University of Cincinnati’s MetroLAB invited the community to come together and brainstorm leveraging the success of last years Five Point Alley popup. The goal is to expand the Sunday event over an entire weekend. But what should the other two days be used for? Hope is that in this afternoon session residents and stakeholders would help map the future of Five Point Alley.
There is momentum in the area leading into this summer. Fire Side Pizza will be moving into the old firehouse on E. McMillan and a heard rumors of a coffee shop opening up with its back to the event space.
The residents I talked to were all high on the changes occurring in the neighborhood, things are definitely moving in the right direction.
This summer is going to be pretty exciting in Walnut Hills.

nei pesci ci fidiamo: Nativity School

In this episode of the Friday Fish Fry roadshow we head north to Pleasant Ridge and the Nativity School. The Nativity School's claim to fame is haddock instead of cod. And I think it paid off for them. The fish and the breading were some of the best we've had. And sweet potato French fires were good too. It was funny that I, the pickiest eater loved the cole slaw but no one else liked it. I don't know, maybe it made perfect sense. All that and $3 craft beers? Its pretty hard to beat all that.
I gave the Nativity School in Pleasant Ridge 3.75 fish out of 5.

I only made out bits and pieces of this story, he bought this accordion for $0.99 and then somehow the gaurds at the store tried to arrest him. The story had some twists and turns, but he lived to tell me about it and serenade us.
