Wasson Way ribbon cutting

After eight years of grassroots campaigning the first phase of the Wasson Way became reality. Right now it is a short section of what will eventually stretch through twelve neighborhoods and connect the uptown area and Xavier University with the Loveland Bike Trail. There is much work to be done before that happens but it has begun.

Taco Night in America!

Well, OTR. Or Findlay Market to be more specific. When Tablespoon Cooking Co. added a taco night to their schedule I didn't mess around and I rsvp'd right then. These Tablespoon Cooking classes are really cool. There were people of all skill levels in the class, one woman chopping onions like it was her full-time job to one guy a little apprehensive around a knife and cutting board. But no matter your skill level, Ms. Hamons and Ms. Kinney plus a few other instructors roamed around offering tips and encouragement. Luckily for Ms. 5chw4r7z and I, we've taken one of the knife skills classes and get plenty of practice at home so I knew which end of a knife to grab. The mind-blowing part of the class for me is we make some of these dishes all the time, but it's amazing having a trained professional lean in to give you a simple tip and it tastes 10x better than what we do at home.
Chicken and beef were grilled, salsas made, tortillas heated up and when we got done everyone joined together and enjoyed a taco feast.
Teamwork tastes awesome!

People visit the city to encounter the unexpected

I'm sitting in the Findlay Market beer garden sipping a beer when a young man with ice cream sits down across the table. I smiled at the randomness and because for a second, I thought he was someone else. How's it going, man? He mumbled that he just wanted to eat ice cream. He mom all worried walked up and asked if I was ok with him sitting there, sure I said. Then we started talking, she told me they used to hardly ever come downtown, they live in West Chester, but because of the streetcar, they come down to visit all the time.
Wait I said, you're from West Chester? Yes.
And you come down specifically because the streetcar is here? Yes.
She went on to tell me they park at the Banks and bounce around all over. Because her son is developmentally disabled they can easily get around with him. One of her biggest wishes she told me is that someone would build a home for people like her son somewhere along the route so her son and others like him could easily get around the city on their own.
To say I was completely floored is an understatement.
Pople will never cease to surprise if given the chance.

Secret Pizza, don't tell your friends

(tell everyone)
That is the cryptic message Secret Pizza posts along with their instagram updates.
Now I'm particular and finicky about pizza. Like it ain't pizza if it doesn't have tomato sauce and pepperoni. But I'm willing to make exceptions once in a while and I'm so happy that I do because Secret Pizza is legit. But then any food made with intention and care is going to be amazing.
Ok, but where can you find this magical pizza you ask? Monday nights at Mainwood Pastry on the south side of Findlay Market. The market is quiet on Monday nights so they won't be hard to find even if you don't know exactly where they are. I got a slice of their classic, which is exactly how it sounds, tomato sauce topped with the most amazing basil. They also have a rotating special pizza and I got a slice that contained fig and red onion jam, with mushrooms, goat cheese, thyme, and arugula. It sounds like a mouthful and it was. So. Good.
They serve pizza Monday nights 6-9 while supplies last/Mainwood Pastry/cash only. It would probably be a good idea to double check their instagram page before heading down just in case.
And remember, don’t tell your friends (tell everyone)

After the pizza walk it off and check out all the amazing artchetecture and streetart, without all the hustle and bustle of a weekend afternoon you notice things you don't normally notice. And they opened up another store front on Elm St with a cool old cigar sign.

Second Sunday on Main

This month's edition "Pride on Main" was attended by the biggest crowd I can remember, maybe it was the pleasant weather compared to what we've been seeing in Cincinnati? The Pride month SSoM is always my favorite mostly because I love watching the little kids throw water balloons at the drag race contestants.
A hundred vendors, food, drink, and music, you're next opportunity for SSOM is Aug 12th, don't miss out.

Northside is the bikeside!

One of the reasons I like the Northside 4th of July parade among many other reasons is all the bikes. Northside has always been the bicycling heart of Cincinnati.
