open source ice cream

Good things are cheap.
Japanese proverb

Everyone has a fond memory of an ice cream cone, whether a sundae cone bought from an ice truck after a dip in the pool or a Friday tradition with the family hitting the local shop. Seems like we always end up in a discussion, which ice cream is the best.
But I think, we’re not arguing which is technically best, what we're arguing is the ice cream with the most fond memories.
The Scoop
The Scoop
Another dimension is how people consume said ice cream, home alone out of the carton or in an ice cream shop. For me the shop will always be the end in itself for getting ice cream.
Graeter’s seems corporate, Handle’s with its walkup window speaks more to the vernacular, the people from the surrounding neighborhood standing around the parking lot, while kids chase each other around the cars. And of course Jeni’s, a sophisticated shop matching the luxurious flavors of the ice cream.
The Scoop
The Scoop
This all brings us to the Scoop, when people suggest hey you can get this brand or that at the local grocery, I can’t even wrap my head around it, The Scoop distills the whole ice cream patheon down to a nut shell, enjoying the treat with people you really care about, laughing as the kids drip it down their hands, asking who got what. And to top it all off, its at the ocean.
That to me is what its all about.

i yam what i yam

i ran this post a year ago, but once again it seems timely, funny how situations never really change only the characters.
One of the biggest(but not the only) influences on me blogger wise has been Raymi.
I've never met her, maybe one day.
She was the second blogger I read regularly and when I started blogging, and she really struck me as someone who really goes for it, not playing it safe at all.
She had an interview with an online mag and this excerpt struck me, talking about sticking your neck out.

when you feel insecure about something you are doing, ... that vulnerability means that you are doing the right thing and when you watch that... the part when you started second-guessing ... that is likely the best part ... same goes for writing and photos of yourself. go the extra distance, it pays off.

She's not the only one of course, there's another blogger, who I actually did meet and has always pushed me out of my comfort zone.
So to everyone who asks, do you ever feel weird talking pictures in restaurants.
Aren't you a little full of yourself, talking pictures of yourself all the time?

Actually, I'm probably tons more insecure than you are, but I'm growing and discovering things that I otherwise wouldn't have.
get your ash downtown

And one of those things is, I'm probably tons more egotistical than you are.[where: 45202]best place to learn how to live downtown cincinnati ohio the ethos of Cincinnati

a year ago at Parker Flats

I'll never ever get tired of this view, the morning sun, the bridges glowing.
Something about the steel bridges, a manifestation of the manufactured physical world in a juxtaposition against the beautifully natural hills and sky of Kentucky.
And talking about skies, we're off into the wild blue yonder for a week at the beach.

Queen City Square II and The Banks a year ago

These were originally posted a year ago today, amazing what they did in a year, and under budget.

The work is going fast and furious on the Banks also, I love this rending of what it will look like when finished.

couldn't do this all the time and haven't for years but as an excuse to hang out with good friends a bowling outing isn't a bad way to go at all. kind of funny actually, we cleaned the dust out of the gutters for them.
shoutout to Mojojacob for winning the party and inviting all of us, food and bowling for all

Watch This, A Streetcar Named Desire

Now I see what all the fuss is about, there was some heavy lifting in the acting department going on in this movie, off the top of my head I can't think of a movie more depended on the acting and everyone except maybe the secondary characters did incredibly.
Marlon Brandon in his prime, wow, now I understand all the women swooning over him, between the acting and his looks no wonder he had it all, it must have been over whelming and I guess it was.

The Al & Al show of Watch This fame giving us the deets of Streetcar.
Watch This
Funny how sometimes your idea of a movie which you haven't seen before can get blown away almost instantly, when Blanche gets off the train and askes "They told me to take a streetcar named Desire" I had always thought the desire reference was just a metaphor for her experience at the Kowalski apartment. I hadn't realized it was an actual streetcar.
Its also kind of funny that Kim Hunter playing Stella was maybe more well know as Zira.
Or not.

Something for everyone, Alex dozes off as Julie sheds a few tears.

summa time and the livinz EZ

Summer is 2/3s of the way done and there's not much we can do about it, not much except eat as many burgers and drink as many beers as we can while it lasts.
To that end we did something we rarely do, and I was reminded why. We headed out to the 'burbs for the Penny's grill out.
5:30pm on a Sunday afternoon and 75N was gridlocked bumper to bumper stop and go traffic.
As Jon Stewart would say "are you people F#@Kin nuts?"
But OH were Nathan's burgers worth it.
