Sprezzatura

If you're going to have friends, and I highly recommend you do, you should have at least one that can cook.
I'm blessed because it seems like all of mine are fantastic in the kitchen. Not sure how I got so lucky but I'm not complaining.
Anyhow, this explains how I found myself at adorkandhispork's place one night eating mouthwatering pizzas.
Add to that he's an adroit deipnosophist and you have the recipe for a fantastic night.

leave town now while its still cool

Allison got a job outta state and is leaving Cincinnati.
I guess its fitting that she had a party and I said
goodbye
in the same place I met her,
the Northside Tavern, way way back in 2009
before everyone was on twitter
and already knew each other.

Allison/Tacocracy
(the good news is its only ciao and not arrivederci)

then we walked down the street and stuffed our faces with tacos
Tacocracy

Shebar's going away. dinner

Awesome food and company last night at Virgil's Cafe in Bellevue.
Most of the moisture stayed away, only a few raindrops and a few tears.
So long buddy, we'll miss you.

Cincinnati will be short one character and a little less interesting

Shock the World

I'm stealing Ed's line here, he may have shocked the world, but not me. After following Ed's blog I'm not surprised that he's finally had an article published in the national mag Slam and his article on Xavier's Tu Holloway broke through into the big time.
Now some people get jealous, or beat down when people they know step up and do something awesome. Not me, I think I get as much joy from friends success as I do my own. It reinforces why I like them in the first place, surrounding myself with fearless risk takers. How else is someone going to stay on their A-game?
Everyone got together last Friday night to get their celebration on at Lunar, a bonus for the party because the place can be a little trippy.

Tri-State Bloggers Holiday Happy Hour

One of my favorite quotes;

The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread.
~ Mother Teresa

By this standard I am very rich indeed, I’ve met and became friends with the most intelligent and interesting Cincinnati bloggers, the best gift anyone could wish for. And not just bloggers, this blog has introduced me to all kids of cool people I may have never met otherwise.
We were all going to meet up at Mayday last Thursday, that is until the snow hit and scared everyone off. But those that did show, we had some incredible hot dogs, beer and conversations. next time people, I want to see everyone.

Small Girl Adventures If you could give a present to anyone who would it be? If I could give anyone a present: it would have to be my grandpa John Lacey since he died four days before christmas in '06 and I was never able to give him his present plus he's my biggest hero. Other than him, i'd enjoy going to childrens hospital and giving the gift of christmas cheer to all the families and children there since my family and I know what it's like to be there during the holidays. I think that would be it. Thanks and hope your day is lovely!

3 Christmas wishes

~ In a drama of the highest order there is little food for censure or hatred; it teaches rather self-knowledge and self-respect. ~
Percy Bysshe Shelley

I know I'm mixing some quotes, but drama really does make the world go round. And even though I've been accused, maybe not totally unfairly of liking drama, its the good drama I really love. And what can be more dramatic than food? Whether its bursting into flames, or coming out of the oven absolutely perfect.
I think that's the big attraction it has for people on the internet, we're all intimately wrapped up in food.
So with all this in mind you can only imagine how excited I was to receive an invite to dine at Epi-Ventures awesome Mt Lookout home. Forgetting about food for a moment Courtney has the best blog in the world with her excellent writing and photography skills. I've always been insanely jealous of her food photography so you can imagine how I felt at my chance to touch some of that magic. When I pulled out the camera she even redid all the lighting for me, she's figured out all the best configurations for it.

summa time and the livinz EZ

Summer is 2/3s of the way done and there's not much we can do about it, not much except eat as many burgers and drink as many beers as we can while it lasts.
To that end we did something we rarely do, and I was reminded why. We headed out to the 'burbs for the Penny's grill out.
5:30pm on a Sunday afternoon and 75N was gridlocked bumper to bumper stop and go traffic.
As Jon Stewart would say "are you people F#@Kin nuts?"
But OH were Nathan's burgers worth it.

Hey Take the Cake, Watch This

yes, the event formerly named Film This has changed its name to Watch This. I was all invested in and liked Film This but it ain't my franchise, so there you go.
Another exciting development, select Fridays will have their screenings at Take the Cake Cafe. How fun, it will put the brakes on drinking but, HELLO!, cupcakes. come on, where do we sign up?
The innaugural event at Take the Cake featured Fargo which earned seven Academy Award nominations, winning two for Best Original Screenplay for the Coens and Best Actress in a Leading Role for McDormand.
Based on a true story I thought about how the movie would seem a comedy of errors for everyone involved, but what I took from it is there's no such thing as bad luck, just a long series of really, really bad decisions.
