May the Fourth Be With You: An Art Tribute Show

May 4th at The Brewhouse in Walnut Hills, Episode III of the Star Wars fan art show debuted. The quality of the art is amazing, I figured there would be some really good stuff and a bunch of, well, fan art. But I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the work all the way across the board.
The show runs a couple weeks so if you're a Star Wars fan make sure you swing by grab a beer and check out the incredible art.
EDIT: I just realized there was little to no Ewok art at the show. Those little guys turned a battle and helped drive a stake in Darth Vader and the Empire's heart. You woud think people would show them a little more love. I always wondered about the lost potential of Ewoks, everyone saw what those little bastids could do with logs and rocks, why didn't anyone ever hand them a blaster?

People watching was pretty good too!

They had some live art action happening too, if you've never seen the process an artist goes through creating art it might be eye opening. Art isn't as simple as you would think.

Walk on Woodburn

Walk on Woodburn, the periodic Walnut Hills event held to highlight everything cool happening on Woodburn Ave. And it keeps getting cooler now that the various galleries and retail shops have been joined by restaurants and a brewery.
Brown Bear Bakery doesn't just bake treats, no they bake art. They provided a spread at Parlour Salon that made it worth making our way to Walnut Hills all by themselves!

Bob Scott's negatives of Key West were pretty cool, the landscapes looked like coral. And W.O.W. always happens in conjunction with Manifest Gallery opening a new show, they never disappoint.

Cincinnati Street Food Festival

Street food, food trucks, interactive art, and live music at the 6th annual Cincinnati Street Food Festival.

The sight of this children's bike at the bike valet made me smile and filled me with joy.



The 1/4lb dog from Quite Frankly hit the spot. They dusted it with salted grilled onions. It never occurred to me to salt a hot dog but man was it good.


This installation from BLDG has held up surprisingly good.

life is beautiful

I've had an amazing series of events I've wandered into lately with no expectations or anticipation of what they would offer.
You've heard that quote, "Live everyday like its your last." I've been thinking about how dumb it is, what does it even mean? What I strive for is, "Live everyday like it is your first with a childlike sense of wonder and joy."
It's easy to be cynical and jaded, it takes some work to see the beauty that surrounds you. I don't know if there is anything more important than that.
This might be the number #1 life hack ever. See and love the beauty that is right in front of you.
I hope I keep this streak going.
How about a turtle in a beautiful hidden space in Walnut Hills that was once a garbage filled alley?
I couldn't believe I had the space to myself for 20-30 minutes. But I was grateful I did.
I just realized I've had a whole week of Walnut Hills posts. They're definitely doing something right over there.

And Yet All of These Things Are Connected......

Per Maya Drozdz, "Over the past year, Ledge Gallery has hosted diverse exhibitions, from contemporary art to fascinating and esoteric artifact collections. For this, our one-year retrospective, we gather together one piece from each exhibition and celebrate the synergy and enthusiasm that has greeted this venture from its early days in its original location in Over-the-Rhine..."
When Ms. Drozdz asked me to be part of the retrospective I got excited, I had planned my exhibit around the Ledge Gallery in her tiny AF OTR apartment and worried about the context being lost at the gallery in back of Your Friends & Neighbors. The retrospective I felt would add the context to my photos that was lost, and it did. If you haven't visited The Ledge Gallery yet or you've missed one or more of the shows, be sure to check it out the next time you visit Walnut Hills.

I've been trying to get a picture of Scout, Hi-Bred's shop dog for years, he finally stopped moving long enough for me to snap a good one.
Endangered Species, Virginia Elliott has sculpted in cast bronze and other metals species that are on the verge of being extinguished forever.
Form of Chance, these abstracts by Ivan Ivanov reminded me of alien worlds and had tons of movement and energy.
A chance meeting with an old friend Jeff, and a very talented AAC student Rhee. Revel has three large works of hers hanging in their 2nd floor space. She of course had works on display for WOW also inside of Left Coast Modern.

Landlocked Social House

Landlocked Social House is set to open this Wednesday, June 7th! Their hours will be 6:30am to 5pm Monday - Saturday until they get the bar side setup. Swing by and sip some awesome Woodburl Coffee and grab a bagel or pastry. If you have never had one of Fat Ben's Bakery pastries stop messing around. They are amazing.
I hadn't been in since they received the grant to bust out that front wall and add a window, it really opens the place up with views of Mount Adams.

Now all they need is a bike rack, I had to lock mine up to the bench in front of White Whale Tattoo. I don't know the backstory on the Landlocked name but I like how it is a play off their landlord White Whale.
