does Jeni's have future plans for Cincinnati? here's the "scoop"

Imagine our surprise Sunday afternnon when we hit Main St and witnessed people walked around shellshocked. And how our eyes lit up when the saw Jeni's ice cream truck siting there.
At the same time all of us exclaimed "NOOOOO WAY!"
Yes way, one of the guys in the truck was giving an oral history of Jeni's Ice Creams as he served people who may or may not know anything about them.
When asked he told me they were just feeling the place out.
But I had to know for sure what was up and this is what Jeni's told me.

On the record, we love Cincy. Would love to be able to scoop down there more regularly... but we've got nothing else in the works right now—except for rolling up in the Street Treats truck again next month for Second Sunday. Giddyup.

No ice cream turf wars for the foreseeable future.

The anti-city group coast compares the streetcar to terrorists murdering Americans.
I'm mad, but I almost feel sorry for those Keystone Cops of politics.
They need to see a doctor asap.



Never mind the fact that the streetcar is already funded with State and federal funds. State law says it would be illegal to use these transportation funds for payroll.
I wonder how many dollars eaten up in frivolous lawsuits by these guys could have been used for police and fire payroll?

Special 911 exhibit. There has been no admision in previous years, I can't find confirmation anywhere.
With the 911 memerabilia they may charge, still plenty to see outside wth all the old trucks.

I get asked all the time, “5chw4r7z where do we go downtown for our anniversary/birthday/special event?”
Its not surprising to me when people want to do something special, their first thought is downtown. The energy and excitement are a link, bookmarking a point in time.
Got me thinking, Cincinnati could be missing a marketing opportunity.

Make everyday special, come downtown!

And if, as some think that I just plopped into downtown and declared it the greatest place in the world just because I'm here, no, because I've never felt that way about anywhere else I've lived. No its your reverence/disregard, fascination/revulsion, expectation/doubt of downtown Cincinnati that has convinced me this is the greatest place in the world to live.

Future Shock

I'm hip deep in the future, standing in the middle of it as a matter of fact.
Its here right now, but like William Gibson said, its unevenly distributed.

One thing about Riverfest, its as much about the parties as is it the fireworks. Nothing beats an invite to a prime viewing location, doubly so on a rainy drizzly day like this past Sunday.

Listermann Brewing Company is brewing a beer in honor of Arnold's, called Arnold's Ziffel. WOW does that date me that I know who Arnold Ziffel is? Dan Listermann wanted to lock down a recipe for Arnold's Harry's Law premier party coming up soon in which the show is set in but not filmed in Cincinnati. Arnold's bar will also feature heavily in the show.

Dan is aiming for an Altbier, beer they used to brew way back, back before refrigeration and cold fermenting yeast.
Amazing the difference in taste between them, or maybe it wasn't all that amazing as two different yeasts were used.
UPDATE: Tom from Hoperatives who was also there set me straight on the yeast;
"...it was 2 recipes (one using 50% smoked malt, the other 100%) and 4 different yeasts. So each bottle had a different yeast strain.But yeah, they were all very different."



Now I'm not gonna lie, Altbier wouldn't be my first choice at the bar, but I could appreciate it.

RIP Martha, Sept. 1 1914

Martha, died 97 years ago today at the Cincinnati zoo. The last of over a billion birds that once roamed America.
Treehugger says she's stuffed but not on display at the Smithsonian.
From RoadsideAmerica;

Martha spent her last years in the Cincinnati Zoo, in a pagoda aviary that has been restored. It's an official National Historic Landmark... Perched on a rock in front of the hut is a life-size bronze likeness of Martha. Also here is the stuffed carcass of the last Carolina Parakeet, "Incus," who died in this same aviary in 1918, four years after Martha. That makes this place a uniquely bad spot in the history of bird extermination.
