Outside, rip

Final Friday April 30
Final Friday April 30

Creative destruction can be a good thing. Public spaces rebuilt to be more attractive to visitors. Restaurants replace retail, parks spring up reborn. Transit is rethought. Its all good. Until someone you know falls victim to it.

"The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread." ~ Mother Teresa

By this measure Terry from Outside is a very rich man indeed. Unfortunately that doesn't pay the bills and Outside fell victim the economy.
Well he went out with a bang Friday night with a blowout Cinco de Mayo themed party to thank everyone for their support and to allow us to thank him for providing us with really cool options for our outside spaces.

I'm sure he'll popup somewhere else, stronger and wiser from the experience. The Q will be just a little quieter without Outside.

Final Friday

After a quiet Final Friday in March, April's began wall to wall people, a warm night and the buzz in the Q was palatable.
I don't want to blow your mind or anything but there is alot going on Final Friday, too much. We're not even scratching the surface anymore, its crazy.
First stop is THE stop, Cafe de Wheels. Wasn't my interntion to ruffle feathers a week or so ago with my burger salvation post, I'd give Cafe de Wheels a solid #2 for best burger in Cincinnati.

Carolyn at Mica/12v, with more time after closing the other location has gotten back into art, she was ecstatic as she explained the found sheet music in her current art display.

a cold night and hotdogs

Back in the day, you know, the long ago days when I walked to school.
In the snow.
Up hill.
Both ways.
Hot dogs were simple.
Some onions, mustard, katsup and for the crazies living on the edge, relish.
Well Cincinnati your hotdog has gone upscale. Introducing Senate, the hotdog stand that got a make-over and bought a sophisticated loft in The Q. That plain old hotdog will never again be the same. Gourmet street food has hit the big time and apeared on the scene at Senate, with a wood fired grill, the dogs are grilled, the buns toasted for the descriminating tastes.
Along with a nice selection of micro beers and wines, you can't go wrong. And the bonus to being the hippest trendy dog shop? You're in the Q, the hippest trendy neighborhood in the city.

The place was slammed when we arrived, but less than 20 minutes later we scored a cozy table. While everyone has seperate tables, the long bench seat almost puts me in mind of Take the Cake's comunity tables and sure enough we were seated by some downtowners we knew and chatted a little until they left.

triple bottom line and the coolest places in Cincinnati

Park+Vine

This is a post I've been meaning to write for a long time, what makes some of the coolest places in Cincinnati, the coolest places in Cincinnati?
triple bottom line.
Triple bottom line is a business or organization that accounts for financial as well as social and environmental bottom lines - people, planet, profit.
A business is started to make money, without that there's no sustainability. There is a focus on the community and community building and also a priority of walking/biking over driving and other activities aimed at making the world a better, greener place.
Now there are many examples in Cincinnati, but my favorite, by far, and I think I can speak for others is Park+Vine.
We all witnessed this earlier in the month when the place was flooded with flowers for Dan's birthday. Park+Vine has turned into one of those gems without which, I don't think The Q would be the same.

And we're always running into a different set of friends, this week we stalked ran into Megan at a number of places.
I can't wait until the Senate opens and there's one more bar to hit. Its going to be right across from Lavomatic.

Human Blockhead!
No not Terry, the beer. If I didn't have to be up early the next morning, I would have knocked him down and drank the whole thing myself.
Vine-L

I didn't drink these, but I thought it funny they advertised a bucket of 6 beers for $8 but they were 6oz beers. I guess when they say Little Kings they mean it.
Cincinnati Imports

5 minutes earlier there were 4 people in this bar.

this, this IS the most dangerous place in the world

Yeah, 2005 there is no way in hell I'm standing at the corner of 12th and Vine I'll give you that, but after sensationalizing the story for 1/2 hour that 3 minute story on Channel 9 was disgusting, data from early in this century doesn't tell the story of OTR the last 3 years.
Cherry picking the blocks to use, I bet we could make a case Anderson is the most dangerous place in the world, or even West Chester, so I call bullshit shenanigans.

I'm sure you've all seen the story by now, I'm not rehashing it, but UrbanCincy did have this gem pulled straight off the website.

Gateway Quater Summer Celebration

Saturday dawned hot and humid, or as Frank said, less humid then Friday, given Friday was off the chart, what is less?
Still stinkin hot. But it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be with a breeze blowing.
They did a good job with the mixture of vendors, and the setting was great, clean crisp tents, some incredible arts and crafts.
And beer.
I saw all the usual suspects, I was there right smack in the middle of the day so I hope later on some people who've never been down to The Q before showed up and checked it out.
