One little rant here, I think that sustainable, just like walk-able, has become a buzzword and entirely lost all meaning. OK, that said I like and applaud Ms. Sears' mission to advance education on water supply issues. The Green Store carries a range of beauty, household and fashion products that tread lightly on mother Earth.
The pop-up is located in People's Liberty's Globe Gallery, 1805 Elm St. across from Findlay market.

This is a post I've been meaning to write for a long time, what makes some of the coolest places in Cincinnati, the coolest places in Cincinnati?
triple bottom line.
Triple bottom line is a business or organization that accounts for financial as well as social and environmental bottom lines - people, planet, profit.
A business is started to make money, without that there's no sustainability. There is a focus on the community and community building and also a priority of walking/biking over driving and other activities aimed at making the world a better, greener place.
Now there are many examples in Cincinnati, but my favorite, by far, and I think I can speak for others is Park+Vine.
We all witnessed this earlier in the month when the place was flooded with flowers for Dan's birthday. Park+Vine has turned into one of those gems without which, I don't think The Q would be the same.

PARK(ing) Day 2009

PARK(ing) Day is an annual, one-day, global event where artists, activists, and citizens independently but simultaneously temporarily transform metered parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public parks. I had been wanting to check it out for a year or so and this year I got to.
I was hoping there'd be one in the CBD but at the end of the day, it really made sense to do this in The Q, where there's a concentration of green and outdoor themed stores.









The shaved ice guy saved our life, or at least it seemed like it at the time.



Learning how to ride a Segway, surprisingly, you control it mostly through your feet, just like a motorcycle.
Eric from Green Drinks Mason gave us some excellent lessons, and had us riding like pros in minutes.

recycleD bin

Jenny an interior design student at University of Cincinnati, has setup a display at Park+Vine and is selling containers made entirely out of plastic grocery/shopping bags.
How cool is that?
Recycle(or trash) bins made out of recycled bags. Its funny, when I first saw her blog I twittered her and told her she absolutely had to talk to Dan, And she told me she already had and here is the result..

Why downtown?

Walkscore is an interesting google map wiki. Type in your address and it gives you a walkability score from 1 to 100 with 100 being the most desirable. They say 90 to 100 is a walkers paradise. I scored a 97 downtown, which I already knew from the fact that I can go weeks without seeing my car.
Walkscore runs down the whole list of reasons you should walk instead of drive, but they miss the most important reason of all as far as I'm concerned, socialbility. Do you drive past people you recognize and wave? I walk by and stop and talk, its hard to go more than a block or two downtown and aviod this from happening.

Shell Oil is catching a ton of flack over this ad. Ok I'll admit they are probably doing it for selfish reasons to distract everyone from their environmental record, and record profits. But hey don't all businesses run ads in their own self interest?
I'm just glad they are trying to raise awareness over legitimate concerns.
