You want to know why? because everyone* in Cincinnati is from the future.
Living in the past.
So in fact, everyone living in Cincinnati is twenty years ahead of their time!
As proof I present to you the Futuro house!
* Well everyone is twenty years ahead of their time except these guys who are stuck in 1952

7 time travelers
I rode a pure fixed bike for the first time at Reser OTR, it was an interesting experience. Number one as you know, there is no coasting on a fixed gear bike. Knowing this and experiencing it of course are two very different things. Every time you drop your guard, the pedals yank your legs and remind you. Once the shock and intensity of keeping my legs moving what I found fascinating was how quiet the bike was, stripped down as basic as a bike can get there was nothing to make noise but the chain gliding over the gears. I need to give one of these a spin somewhere besides a busy Vine St on Final Friday.

Thanks Mike Brown!
Finally some give back, a fireworks display we didn't need to get off our couch to watch
but we did anyhow
they all looked like discount bombs that didn't sell for the 4th
but we don't care

For all that the old media is totally not getting social media and using it in the most cringe worthy ways, businesses are a totally different animal. At least the savvy ones are. Its interesting how many with no budgets come up with new ways to engage people. And bigger businesses are catching on fast, you can't be in peoples faces, make it fun, give them an almost instant reward.
And that is how, during a rain delay last week at the Reds game I discovered #instareds.
Here is your plan for scoreboard domination.
post an instagram tagged #instared
wait for the scoreboard pictures to loop until yours pops onto the screen
high-five everyone within high-fiving distance
Get addicted and take more!
The Reds filter the pictures so make it wholesome and fun, they also show the #instareds pictures before games so have fun with it on your way into the park.
These were mine from the game although only two made it up.
ITS ON THE SCOREBOARD!!!

I'm sure you've read a million stories now, in "old media" about all the problems with social media. People talking about what they had for lunch, celebrities humble bragging about their lives. If you follow celebrities or listen to anything "old media" tells you about social media stop right now.
Here is how social media works, you post an instagram, someone likes it. Their bio is a facebook link to their store. You check out the link and the place looks intriguing. The next thing you know you're in Walnut Hills visiting Hinge, David and Amanda's new up-cycle & vintage store on E McMillan in Walnut Hills.
Turns out that David and Amanda have recently moved to Cincinnati from Chicago and seem to have really embraced the neighborhood and it seems to have embraced them too.

Clouds, a rain drop or two and a bunch of tree made for a, if not cool, then comfortable afternoon for Walnut Hill's best popup space, the Five Points Biergarten. They had Rhinegeist beer delivered in an eco-friendly and sustainable manner by pedal power. Maybe a nice link and connection from a neighborhood who has made it to the next one up and coming.
Someone called Walnut Hills the next OTR, I see where they are coming from but I don't agree with the analogy at all. Where OTR is all about density, Walnut Hills is going to be more about families, or people wanting just a little more space and a little less energy.
If you're not up for the crowds and the intensity of an OTR bar on a Sunday, the Five Points Biergarten is about as laid back as it gets.
It appears again August 18 and September 15th. Mark your calendar now.

The average person doesn't realize this, but contrary to what the old news media feeds you, there is a broad base of support for the streetcar. How did you think it made it this far? Fed up with one-sided streetcar stories the group Cincinnatians for Progress has awoken from its slumber and is going on the offensive to get the word out. We all know that there are people in Anderson Township, Warren and Butler County hate the streetcar with a passion.
Randy Simes, editor of the blog UrbanCincy has some good insight on why,
If you ever wonder why opponents have been so bold here in Cincinnati, this is why. Once people are introduced to modern transit options, they don't want to go back to the days without it.
