FC Cincinnati

I've been hearing soccer is the sport of the future since the nineteen hundred and eighties, and I like to joke that it always will be.
That said, I love the energy and excitement that FC Cincinnati has generated. The whole movement has been fascinating, the soccer fans seem just a little more passionate than your average sport fan. Well, maybe not football, but definitely most any other sport.
So this whole FC Cincinnati vs. NY Red Bulls, even a non-fan like me knew this was special and amazing and not to be missed so I made a point to roll down to Fountain Square's watch party. David only beats Goliath in story books so I wasn't expecting FC Cincinnati to actually win this thing but I kept thinking what if.....
It ended pretty much how I figured, you got guys making $25K a year playing against guys making almost a million a year those are long odds. FC Cincinnati had a long string of success in the Open Cup and probably went farther than anyone expected.

199C: Scandals, Superstitions & Screwballs

199C, the Pantone color for Reds red, is the annual warmup party hosted by BLDG for the Reds upcoming season. This years theme, Scandals, Superstitions & Screwballs highlighted the humorous and sometimes seedy side of baseball in general and the Reds specifically. Unsurprisingly when it comes to scandals Pete Rose is always going to play an out-sized role.
The art work is all on sale and on display through the month of April.

FC Cincinnati

I admit I'm not a soccer fan, I'm old enough I missed the whole soccer revolution in the 80s when it became the sport of the future. Usually when I hear anyone mention soccer is the sport of the future I add, "and it always will be" but I won't bore you with all my soccer jokes.
Recently a deal came up we couldn't resist from datenight, buy your tickets through them and hangout before the game with drinks and bites provided.
FC Cincinnati did a really good job with getting fans involved, they were high energy. And luckily there were a couple young kids behind us narrating the action or I would have had no idea what was going on. Maybe they didn't know either but they sounded like they did.
Will I go to another match? Maybe if I fall in with Ronnie and Die Innenstadt, we'll see. But if you have young kids this is definitely worth a look, soccer seems more family friendly than some of the other traditional sports.

The Handlebar at Great American Ballpark

When I first got an invite to the The Handlebar at Great American Ballpark and was informed I may or may not have a view of the field I didn't get it. Why go to the ballpark if I was going to watch the game on TV? It didn't really make sense. But I guess that's why they invited me. The Reds had the Handlebar suites opened up for us to use and luckily we got seats outside. Still I spent most of the game wondering under what circumstances I would get tickets to the handlebar. But it was walking around to get food and drinks before it really struck home. I kept running into people I knew and I would hangout and talk then be on my way. You see, there were no real barriers between the Handlebar and the field besides the sight lines. Now maybe it wouldn't make total sense to go if it was just me and Ms 5chw4r7z, but what if we had a large group of friends going? Now usually I'd only talk to whoever was to either side of me, but in the Handlebar I would easily be able to talk to all of them and keep an eye on the game at the same time. And it makes even more sense if we wanted something to eat before the game. By time you all spend money and time at a restaurant and then money on tickets, you all could have just easily have bought tickets to the Handlebar and skipped all the aggravation. Especially when you aren't compromising on food or drink, The Handlebar has a laid out spread. So for the price of a couple beers and hotdogs you and your friends could be socializing and watching a ballgame with an open bar and buffet.
A win-win for everyone.
