the most Minumental art show in Cincinnati

The Art Academy of Cincinnati last Friday hosted the The 24th Annual Minumental Exhibition to showcase art that measures less than 2" x 2" and ranges in price from reasonable to not so reasonable. I'd say 95% was relatively inexpensive, a good place to start an art collection on a budget. They claim its one of the longest continually running art exhibits in the Greater Cincinnati Area and they've displayed over 7,000 works. We managed to grab a few cool pieces before they all sold out, I felt bad for the couple behind us , the girl had her hopes up for a particular piece and her body language walking out suggested she didn't get it.

Parker Flats Friday

Parker Flats

People driving past on 71S must have felt like they were flashing back into some film noir movie. Its been so warm and the tweetdeck has been calling.
The cigars sing siren songs and pull me outside.
Well all that and the brilliant sun and mild temps. This is February?
I'll take it.
Smoking a cigar isn't smoking a cigarette.
Its not something undertaken lightly.
The stage must be set, a scene prepared, costumes planned.
A state of mind acquired.

Roebling Bridge

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Skirtz & Johnston @ Findlay Market

After our first visit to Skirtz & Johnston when I mistakenly ate a goetta pastry and was all weirded out about it I felt I really owed them another shot. And this time it paid off big time. Chilli and chicken noodle soup and a big hunk of bread is just what was needed on a sunny Saturday morning.
I have to add this, the first four years in Cincinnati we'd hit Findlay Market once a year. Yeah, four trips in four years. But the last two years we've been coming much more often, it takes a new way of looking at things, a change in lifestyle to really embrace the place. Now we're planning and schemeing on ways to get there more often. Riding the bikes up is looking like the best bet. It's definately walkable when you have tons of time to kill but the bikes will make it more accessable.

I like this display better than the creepy deer at Christmas.

Cincy Winter Beerfest

I wasn't even going because I had heard so many bad things about it last year, but I ran into an organizer in The Lackman one night and he explained I had it confused with a knockoff that ran last year.
No non-beer vendors he promised and since the Nomerati's, The Boilover and the Hoperatives were all going it made it tough for me to skip, so I didn't. Besides imagine going to festival of anything, and having 5 people passionate about whatever is going on there giving you advice about what to try.
Yeah, that's what it was like.
Now, I have my beer opinions and an agenda for what I wanted to try, but I didn't lightly cast aside any suggestions offered by my beer fest co-conspirators.
OK, one complaint, the organizers sold like 2,000 VIP tickets from what I heard. My thinking is, if everyone is VIP, then no one is.

Cincinnati Winter Beerfest

It seemed to me this beer was supposed to be an ale but I'm sure I got it all wrong, but one thing I didn't get wrong was how proud they were of it, they sold a 100 bottle micro batch out in 14 days. It could have been an ale, an ale conditioned in a bourbon barrel. What ever it was sorry guys for forgetting the details but I do remember it was one of my favorites of the Cincy Winter Beerfest.

Beers were drank, good times were had.
I didn't end up in Rabbit Hash Sunday morning missing a shoe and wondering why my tongue hurt.
Pluses all the way around.
Lets do it again next year please.
