The Golden Lawnchair

Its getting really close to Thanksgiving and crunch time for all those dinner plans. But unfortunately not everyone is secure in the knowledge they'll have enough to eat. Which brings us to the 'Nomerati and her pop-up restaurant planned and executed with Josh of Mayberry and benefitting the Freestore FoodBank. Upscale Americana food, raffles and a slient auction helped raise awareness and much needed funds for the foodbank.

Laura enjoying a rare quiet moment in the evening, she did a fantastic job planning this event. It seemed ambitious to me as she talked about it while planning the event and amazingly she pulled it all off without a hitch. Raffles in between courses. A round or two of bingo before dessert, it was an incredible night all around. Good food, lots of fun all while helping out others. She had lots of help of course so credit goes to all those people too, good job everyone.
I feel like I need to add this also;
Not only does Laura kickass, but also Dojo Gelato for giving a lucky donor the opportunity to create and name their very own gelato flavor, then sell that flavor for a week at their shop in Findlay Market and donate all proceeds from that flavor's sales to the Freestore Foodbank.
Cincinnati is fortunate to have businesses like Dojo Gelato, A Tavola Pizza, Molly Wellmann and Nicola's. Plus all the others who donated time and services to help the Freestore Foodbank.

The Grand prize was a vintage bike from the Wrong Brothers and a pinic basket stuffed from Picnic and Pantry.
Buenos Croches, some hard rocking girls. I need to start getting out again for live music, I keep forgetting how much I enjoy it.

If you're going to have friends, and I highly recommend you do, you should have at least one that can cook.
I'm blessed because it seems like all of mine are fantastic in the kitchen. Not sure how I got so lucky but I'm not complaining.
Anyhow, this explains how I found myself at adorkandhispork's place one night eating mouthwatering pizzas.
Add to that he's an adroit deipnosophist and you have the recipe for a fantastic night.

Right about now I imagine a bunch of downtown salarymen thinking, "what a perfect place to bring an out-of-town client for a deal-cinching cocktail." and it will be good for all those things.
But screw that, its time to be a little selfish and think about yourself. Metropole is a good spot just to hang out and chill with some friends.
You know, its been a pretty wild couple weeks. Over the last year all the good news has been in OTR and now twice over the last two weeks we've had two amazing bars open downtown. Metropole is sophisticated to Igby's drama, is one better than the other? I'd say each does exactly what it was meant to with no overlap. If you can't find the bar you want now, it must not exist.

Walk on Woodburn

Every so often, not on a regular schedule I hear they hold Walk on Woodburn, All the shops and galleries are open for an evening of strolling around. With a pleasant Friday night on tap we checked it out. The offerings are still a little thin but they make up for it with quality offerings. And the architecture, WOW!

Leah and Jen told us Kitchen 452 should be open December 14th. Fingers crossed.

Igby's

We got a sneak peek at Igby's in advance of their Saturday grand opening. So far everything 4EG touches turns to gold and I don't see that trend ending with Igby's. They blew out a couple floors to create a dramatic space and used the old floor boards to panel the walls, a nice creative touch.
They also have two outdoor spaces, one on the ground level and another on the second floor.
I just hope they have the radiant heat fired up for next weeks Cincinnati Profile event which is open to the public, so come out and check it.

The Golden Lawnchair

Remember the 'nomerati's Golden Lawnchair blogpost back in early October?
It's becoming a real restaurant. Well, a one night popup restaurant for charity at least.
Laura laughed when I told her I wanted to interview her for her upcoming charity event,
The Golden Lawnchair, since she's talked so much about it.
But this is a serious fundraiser for a good cause so I was worried about putting words in her mouth and I wanted to get it right.

Laura, where did the name Golden Lawnchair come from?
Laura: That was just pure inspiration, I was bouncing ideas off Jeff (adorkandhispork) you know, what’s a good name for a dinner that’s trashy/classy, upscale Americana we thought up a bunch of made-up restaurants to try and pull out one that fit. The Golden Lawnchair popped into my head and I thought about it for awhile, and after a day or two I really liked it.

The dinner is sold out, but there are still opportunities for people to participate?
Yes, we have two tickets that will be up for auction, that auction will run up until the night before the event. There will be an after party (also at Mayberry) that is a cash cover open to everybody. If you're at the dinner you have automatic entry to the after party.
There will be live music in the courtyard weather permitting, a cash bar , also the Dojo Gelato package is still available (not any more). That would make an awesome Christmas present. I've committed to 100 hand written thank you notes. There are more packages on the Indigo webpage,
There will also be a raffle with over $1700 in prizes, a bike from the Wrong Brothers, a picnic basket from Local127, Senate will name a dog of the day for you, and lots and lots of gift cards. Tickets will be $5 each.

And you've gotten a good response from everyone so far?
Everyone has been fantastic. Josh's (Mayberry) willingness to do it, every restaurant has been willing to donate something either a perk involving their time or a gift card.

And its all for a good cause right?
When I realized how close the event was to Thanksgiving it was a natural fit, the Freestore Foodbank does so much for people in need already.
I'm really excited about this, we've been planning really heavy for about a month now, there’s a lot of things you have to consider.

Has it been as hard planning as you thought it would be? Or even harder?
Its been intense, I like planning parties but mostly its been the bureaucratic stuff that comes with charities. Making sure we're not violating liquor laws or tax laws, making sure the money goes to the right place.

There is still a Cocktail class hosted by the famous Molly Wellmann and an A Tavola Pizza Lesson up for grabs. All good deals and all for charity. Raffle tickets can be purchased for cash or credit, but please bring cash, every little bit helps.
