Metropole @ 21c
Right about now I imagine a bunch of downtown salarymen thinking, "what a perfect place to bring an out-of-town client for a deal-cinching cocktail." and it will be good for all those things.
But screw that, its time to be a little selfish and think about yourself. Metropole is a good spot just to hang out and chill with some friends.
You know, its been a pretty wild couple weeks. Over the last year all the good news has been in OTR and now twice over the last two weeks we've had two amazing bars open downtown. Metropole is sophisticated to Igby's drama, is one better than the other? I'd say each does exactly what it was meant to with no overlap. If you can't find the bar you want now, it must not exist.

I have dined at Proof on Main at the original 21c Museum Hotel in Louisville and it was absolutely horrendous. One of the worst meals I have had at at a place with a supposedly good reputation. Here is hoping that Metropole is much better..it will need to be as there is plenty of good competition within the immediate area and the same cannot be said of Proof on Main in the Ville. That being said, the hotel portion of the Louisville location is very nice and I will be quite pleased if the Cincinnati version is as good.
ReplyDeleteUsually a hotel restaurant will survive on location alone. But with Nada across the street, Nicolson's next door, and Ruby's a pitching wedge away (not to mention Boca soon) they have their work cut out.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bob! We have stayed and dined at the 21c in Louisville. Unlike Josh, our experience was great. Probably why there is always a big crowd there! The 21c people we have met are REALLY excited to be in Cincinnati. We wish them great success!
