Cincinnati Supper Club XII

Jackie hosted a very low key Cincinnati Supper Club this month, we're in the depths of winter so it was a nice change of pace actually. The food was incredible as always and as a bonus I just had a Hennessy almond brownie for breakfast. ^burp^

Saint Peter is letting loose a triple YOI!

The only Steeler I never hated.
Myron Cope died this morning. Growing up in northeast Ohio and being a Browns fan usually the only humor to be found when the Browns were in Pittsburgh was listening to Myron.
These days all the corporate announcers sound like clones and there'll never be anyone like him again, when God made Myron he didn't just break the mold, he probably napalmed it too.

Good morning Cincinnati!

I can't put into words what a lift I got this morning when I saw this leaving the gym*.
A good workout and a beautiful morning, is there a better start to the day..

More Metro Musings

After my rant the other day about the Metro, I got an email from Chris, a U.C. law student who I'm sure doesn't even remember what the term spare times means. But he was still able to throw this together, a proof of concept for what I imagined the other day, a Google mashup showing bus routes. Now, if he can do something this nice that makes the metro page smell like bad eggs, why can't the Metro hire one or two people and put something really fantastic together. Oh yeah, as Jackie would say, "Anyone want to try to tell me again why transportation is best run by politicians?"
They have no reason to creat a better webpage, as government paid salarymen, why go out and look for trouble, staus quo man all the way.
By the way Chris said this is "very very very beta mode" so no expectations for it please.
UPDATE: now includes link.

I'm getting stir crazy now can't you tell. I can't wait for the weather to break so I can get outside and see the sun and sky again. But until then, after last summer and fall's smoking season my humidor took a massive hit, but I'm happy to say between Christmas, my birthday and a few online specials the humidor is fully stocked once again, so much so that it now requires Ms. 5chw4r7z to sit on the lid to get it latched. I wouldn't try going near it though if I was you, its guarded by the ferocious Smorkin' Labbit.

Julie stood us up Friday night. (haha just kidding) but we got another invite for dinner so it wasn't all bad, I say all bad because instead of walking we had to drive way, way , waaaaaaay out into the sticks to this little neighborhood place called Habits. The foods not bad at all and the scene is relaxed and we sat around awhile and caught up. Not a bad way to spend a cold Friday evening.

A question for Raul

If the revolution you follow brought you to this, of what use was the revolution?

Farfegnugen or beer? You decide, I already have

Gas

I'm glad I only have to visit a gas station once every couple months whether I need to or not. But this morning, after my trip to Dayton last Tuesday, the 5chw4r7zvagon was running on fumes and had to completely fill the tank. Now I remember why I ride the bus, lets see, would I rather fill the gas tank or make one more visit to Twist and Nada this month.......

The Hannaford Newport, Ky.

Last weekend when we thought spring had finally come and we packed away all our winter clothes and we were stir crazy, had a few errands to run and turned it into an adventure. After a few wild turns and having no idea where we were we popped out from under a bridge and were presented with the Hannaford. That was pretty impressive and I remember seeing tons of stuff online about it including Kevin having one or two posts. For some reason I had thought it was north of downtown, but I was wrong, obviously. These places are really cool and at least compared to downtown seemed down right reasonable. Theres 15 left, I really liked a couple of the smaller lofts, if this place was just north of the river.....

The next Lunar eclipse will be 2010, right when they drive the last spike for the Cincinnati streetcar. May not be SFW.

Theres been some good discussion over at Jackie's blog about the streetcar. Interesting stuff about private vs. public and it really got me thinking about how can we get the streetcar out of the public realm and into private ownership. So here's what I'm thinking, taken to its logical extreme why should the government fund anything? lets hand the bridges over to the company that will run the streetcar, they can charge tolls for revenue to run the streetcar and its upkeep. The company needs to have a hip, trendy name. This should help get people downtown to ride it because its cool, something like say, Cincinnati Urban Neighborhood Transit or C.U.N.T.* for short. The C.U.N.T. can also pay for the upkeep on the bridges themselves since the Brent Spence Bridge is said to need replaced. I read here that 2 cars a second enter the Brent Spence Bridge, so at $.50 a car that would generate $31,536,000 a year in revenue from just one bridge.
Ride the C.U.N.T.! w00t.
*Another freebie, no need to thank me.

I was able to watch the eclipse last night from my computer desk, how cool is that? Unfortunately, my auto focus camera wouldn't auto focus so all I got was this craptastic picture.

You say that murder and robbery is on the increase downtown like its a bad thing.

Thanks to the fact that no one in my office will risk their or their families lives downtown, I snag many a ticket to cool stuff; plays and sports.

The Dublin Pub, eating and drinking in Dayton.

Thanks to everyone who sent in suggestions yesterday and helped me out. I finally decided to go to the Dublin Pub on the edge of the Oregon District. Couldn't have made a better choice, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, the food inexpensive and tasty. It wouldn't be fair to make any judgments on the neighborhood because it was a very cold Tuesday night so I need to go back sometime when its warmer, Fifth Street looked very interesting with all the galleries and cafe's.

Quote of the evening, on the phone to his wife,
Wiscott: You can't give up sex for Lent, you're not Catholic!
5chw4r7z: besides she has to give up something she enjoys.
Wiscott: F U 5chw4r7z!

Thanks, just like old times.
VeggieOption; they still have a humidor, but it was cold so we didn't inquirer about smoking, bummer, Wiscott and I have smoked more than a few cigars together over the years.
