Watch This: The African Queen

The Watch This series is down to #17 which means if you haven't been to a show yet, you're running out of time quick. The movies that are left are incredible and you could do worse than Schindler's List which we're hosting November 24.
So The African Queen, Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn have incredible crazy chemistry, either that or they're just that good. The few action scenes were over blown but the acting carried the movie, its easy to see why this was in the top 20 greatest movies of all time, there aren't too many craftsmen around that put up performances like this.
We watched the movie in the theater room of the East 8th Lofts, love these spaces in old buildings.

Only the Al half of the Al & Al show was present for the intro so Ms. 5chw4r7z helped out.

Katharine, my mind was blown, she was hot in an old school way, not the in your face way pop stars are in 2010.

Don't you want a little taste of the glory? See what it tastes like? Be grateful, Juan Pablo, today is especially delicious.

Its been forever since we’ve been to Nada, its always been one of our favorite places to eat downtown . Maybe its a testament to just how much there is to do downtown and all the awesome places to eat, but whatever the excuse we made up for it big time.
What do they call it? Mexican Fusion? We got into a huge discussion about authentic Mexican food and decided that most likely none of us really like authentic Mexican food as the places that people rave about we never seem to like.

Been seeing blogging how-tos all over the place lately, some of them I look and and think yeah, whateva, and others just piss me off.
I hate giving advice and opinions on this stuff, mostly because I've never been able to articulate what I'm doing but yesterday it struck me.
You only need to remember two things to have the best blog in the world
When you see things on other blogs you like, repeat those things on your blog.
When you see things you hate on other blogs, never ever do those things on yours.
Pretty simple eh?
And like anything else, there’s always a time and a place for breaking rules, even if there’s only two of them.

SHEEEEEBAR!!!!

The Al & Al show were both in Cincinnati, on a Saturday night, the same Saturday and threw a party. Not because both of them were in town at once, I think it was more a house warming and what a party it was. We hit the place like our name was Katrina, and as cool as their new condo is, sad to say it looked a little worse for wear at midnight when all the alchy ran out. Nice thing about these sleek condos, they cleanup fast. I know after having 60 people in ours we've completely cleared the place in 15 minutes.

One of the coolest things about OTR are the outdoor spaces, courtyards and breezeways between buildings and this place was no different, outside in the cool night air smoking and spinning stories.

Who runs out of beer by midnight anyhow? I'm not tossing anyone under the bus but I don't think everyone committed fully to this BYOB. But being OTR there's a bar within walking distance and we're still geeking out over the Lackman Bar on Vine, it has the best vibe going right now.
There's two kegs of Bear Creek Mach10 in Cincinnati for what ever that's worth and Lackman has one. After the first Mach10 that was it, I was thinking I'm riding this train off the cliff and I pretty much did.

Next thing you know its 2am and you're at Lucy Blue looking at a walk home with time to try and sober up. Walk to the party, to a bar and then home, doesn't get much better than that until the streetcar rolls through does it?

an American in Paris. with an ice cream cone

When I used to think of Paris, I imagined people walking around with loaves of French bread and guess what? When we got there we saw people walking around eating bread exactly like I imagined. So when we would get hungry sight seeing, we'd step into a patisserie and buy a small loaf for a €1 or two and walk around tearing hunks off and eating. MAN hands down Paris has some of the best bread in the world.
The last thing I expected after a couple days of wandering around was an ice cream shop and an Italian gelato shop on top of that. But that's exactly what we found. The biggest surprise was when I walked up to the display case, "which two flavors would you like?" said the guy behind it, I literally stepped back, this was the first English I'd heard in three days and almost without an accent.

A surprise on top of a surprise dipped and rolled in surprise. I bet we could make the whole world turn on ice cream if we wanted, ice cream transcends cultural boundaries. Smiling, happy and content we strolled around Victor Hugo's modest resting place. They love their poets in France they do.

Looking at real estate ads you could rent condos in the Latin Quarter for around €1000 a month. No idea of the size of the places but to be in the center of Paris? I figured it would be much more to have a view of the Eiffel Tower stepping out your front door.

Queen City is Haunted Tour

First off I just want to say, since there is only one weekend left to see the Queen City is Haunted Tour is that whether you do the haunted tour, the Civil War Tour, Breweries or the underground, these guys present the material in an easily digested and entertaining way and it is well researched.

Queen City is Haunted Tour

The haunted tour began with some background, how they collected the stories and researched them and what their findings were, I don't want to spoil anything so I'm not going into any details. I will say I don't believe in ghosts or spirits but they did en excellent job setting the stage for some creepiness.
Then on queue as we walked around Washington Park, a full moon rose into the clouds.

Here is were my non belief in ghosts was tested, after talking all evening about spirits drawing energy i.e. heat from the air we went into this place on Vine and as we stood there listening to stories the air became ice cold. Yeah, pretty freaky stuff, luckily there were 50 other people there so I giggled like a little school girl but I'm sure my reaction would have been different if I was there by myself.
