marketing-driven douche-plosion

Yeah, I was trying to be open minded but the longer I was at the new casino the more pissed I got.
It was like someone cherry picked the things I hated most about suburbia, malls and amusement parks and jammed all those things into one building.
I'm gonna try not to be a hater, but I won't be back again either.
Why go to Margaritaville when you got Bakersfield?
Why go to Bobs Burger place when you got Terry's Turf Club?
Why go to that faux Italia place when you got A Tovola?
Why? Mall mentality is all I can figure.

Final Friday:February Edition

These things are already getting out of control, one giant social event with a side of a fashion scene happening.
Then I heard Brown Bear Bakery and Shuster Brewing were going to open up shop in Smartfish Studios no way I was staying away.
Brown Bear provides small batch hand crafted pastries and high quality treats, everything Blair does is pure gold.
Shuster Brewing, I was going to say if Dave has any aspiration for going into business I think he should, everyone was raving about the beer, and I'm still daydreaming about that coffee stout. Now I've found out that yes, he is working on a business plan to open a brewery.

One more stop for the evening, The Frame Shop's grand opening on Main St.
Jake talking about the new sign for the shop. He was jazzed about the idea, like how a plumber has a wrench or a locksmith has a keyfor a sign.

Don't be eyeballing the multimedia piece with Schwartz Point in it, that's all me.

Carpe Diem 2.0: Knights of Columbus - Ludlow

The Friday Fish Fry road show is on the ....a...road, Again
On the road and on a quest for the perfect fish fry, if there is such an animal. And since we're been tasked with this quest there is no law saying we can't have a good time while doing it right?
So it was last Friday we find ourselves in Ludlow at the KoC waiting in line for fish when what happens? Fred comes strolling past with a pitcher of beer and cups and is offering one to people waiting in line. We smile broadly, oh yeah, I think I like this fish fry already.

Firday Fish Fry 2.0: Knights of Columbus - Ludlow

If by "good" beer you mean "free" beer then yes, it was good.
The first fish fry of the season is always hard to judge, it is going to be the litmus test for all that follow it.
So here we go, the KoC's beer battered fish, the outside crunchy, the inside tender. This fish matches the gold standard set by Mary Queen of Heaven last year. Unfortunately the sides let it down. The fries weren't crunchy and while some people like fries like that, I am not among those people. And the cole slaw, I couldn't put my finger on it but something was a little off on the taste. the deserts, oh man, the deserts were good!
The Ludlow KoC ended up with a tentative 3.5, if the fries had been equal to the fish this could have been a 4.5 easy.
When you start thinking bang for the buck, this might be one of the best, so definitely try it out this season.
Life is short, get desert while you're waiting for dinner.

Everytime the fish fry roadshow rolls through we manage to find people to talk to, people who think we're all clinically insane. And Ludlow City Council person Joyce McMullin and her husband were no different.
But Joyce is an excellent ambassador for Ludlow, and she told us “This isn’t fast food, but it’s good food.”
Thanks Joyce, but I hope you don't judge Cincinnati bloggers too harshly now.

Cincinnati Auto Expo

This sure isn't the Cleveland car show which we went to for years, Cleveland was positioned perfectly on the calendar between NYC and Chicago's shows to get the coolest concept cars. Cincinnati's car show doesn't even have the newest Corvette.
The Expo though is a good place to kick a lot of tires and compare cars you might be interested in all in one spot. You avoid the sleezy salespeople and you can run back and forth between the cars you can't make your mind up about.
So if you're in the market for a new car this is the place to be. If you just want to kill some time on the weekend, this would be an expensive way to do it, but still cool if you're a huge car nerd.

something amazing is happening and we have front row seats

I've been bullish on Cincinnati forever, I think everyone knows that. But Cincinnati has surpassed even my wildest expectations lately. New restaurants and bars opening at a fast and furious pace. A ground breaking for dunnhumby Centre and rapid progress there.
Six new business's have opened on W 4th recently, slow but steady progress.
But this week's announcement of a 30 story residential tower with a ground floor grocery to replace the ugliest garage downtown at Race and 4th has even me amazed.
OTR has been getting all the love lately but it looks like developments in my neck of the woods are finally heating up.
Things are changing and changing fast.

They can't tear this ugly 4th & Race parking deck down fast enough.

#1 with a waffle

Really cool Cincy Beerfest weekend. Hanging out with Ms 5chw4r7z and Indy's Tamera Mullins in town as a panelist at the 5B Blogger conference.
How awesome was it having a personal beer guide for the Cincy Beerfest last Friday?
Awesome! That's how awesome it was.
Capped the whole weekend off with breakfast at Taste of Belgium, we got in just beating the crowd.

Cincy Beerfest 2013

"You'll never drink $35 worth of beer! hahaha"
Yeah, someone actually told me that trying to rub my nose in what a fool I am.
But that just illustrates the difference between experience centric people and Eddie Bauers.
I don't care about quantity, that's a piss poor way to judge just about anything.
But quality, oh boy did I try some remarkable beers, beers that can't be bought at any price. Did I love all of them?
No, but that's the whole point.
Twenty five tickets, lets do this!

Could be the most fantastic beer I've ever had in my life. So incredible I ended up behind the ropes talking to the brewermaster about it. He likes to recon cities before visting and brew up these colabarations. Brilliant idea.
