gears of joy

One of the first nice days came along just in time for the first Urban Basin Bicycle Club ride of the season. The ride leaves Fountain Square every Tuesday at 6:30, a nice easy pace and since its the basin ride there are few hills. This past week riders eagerly rode out west along the river to the Mill creek then doubled back to the Theo Berry International Friendship Park.

What's the future look like for Cincinnati?

It all depends on what happens in November.
On one hand we have Roxanne Qualls, a leader with vision. She has been working to foster growth all over the city. 70% of Cincinnati's income comes from income tax, with that in mind the city has to grow to improve finances. The opposition has been trying to turn this into a downtown vs the city battle which is a disservice to what is happening.
One project Ms Qualls has been pushing is Focus 52, a program to fund transformative neighborhood Economic and Community Development projects. Projects in Bond Hill, College Hill, Madisonville and Walnut Hills are ready to go.

On the other hand, John Cranley, is a guy with no vision, you can't even call him a leader. He's hell bent on shutting down anything that competes with his Incline District. He has already helped kill a plan to save hundreds of police and fire jobs. Right now the city estimates they'll get $7.2 million in casino revenue, Cranley and the casino managers estimate it at $21 million.
And guess what one of the programs Cranley will ax for his new budget, yep Focus 52.

So I guess it comes down to this, do you want to bet Cincinnati's future on Cranley and the casino when Vice Mayor Roxanne Qualls and the rest of city council has been working to build a broad base of income for years?

MAPS

I think of MAPS as a mini Wright-Patt Museum and according to their website they are a; "Military Aviation Preservation Society" MAPS is an all volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to educating people about the history of military aviation.
Its tucked away and a little hidden but if you find yourself in Akron with a half day to kill you could do worse than visit. Get up close and personal to the planes with guys that may have flown them or knew someone who did. Cool stuff for anyone interested in military history.

Carpe Diem 2.0: Bridgetown Finer Meats

That's it, another fish fry season in the books.
We couldn't end the season though without a trip to Bridgetown, last years favorite fish fry.
To say Bridgetown is popular would be a real disservice, they have cops directing traffic and knock out around 1500 sandwiches every Friday. How crazy is it that even after all those dinners and a year later, they still remembered us from last year?
Pretty crazy.
Everything at Bridgetown was as good as I remember, tasty crunchy fish, steak fries and some excellent sides.
Don't forget, unless you have an incredible appetite the fish sandwich is more than big enough to share.

Another advantage to Bridgetown is eating outside on one of their picnic tables, after everything is devoured, stroll down to Jenny's Home Cookies for dessert then next door for a wine tasting. Almost a whole evening in one stop.

As good as Bridgetown Finer Meats is, this season its been knocked off the top of the hill by Bayou Fish House. I'm splitting hairs but in any review there has to be winners and losers right? But don't let that stop you, you won't be disappointed in any of the Friday Fish Fries we've sample over the last two years, next year you have your work cut out for you trying these places out.[where: 45202] best place to learn how to live downtown cincinnati ohio the ethos of Cincinnati

dog days of OTR

Some people have said I hate dogs, I feel like that is a little harsh, I'm more of a dog disliker.
But there were a couple characters hanging around and they also say every dog has its day.
And that day is today.

Get Up!

Well by now Maser is back in Dublin, but not before leaving his mark on one of the wildest Final Fridays ever.
A jam packed interactive art installation in the old Art Academy glass space on 12th, jam packed with people, beer flowing freely and some crazy DJ's and bands.
Black Signal. WTF? You guys killed it.
Maser, thanks for the new mural on 12th and the incredible party.
