MAPS
I think of MAPS as a mini Wright-Patt Museum and according to their website they are a; "Military Aviation Preservation Society" MAPS is an all volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to educating people about the history of military aviation.
Its tucked away and a little hidden but if you find yourself in Akron with a half day to kill you could do worse than visit. Get up close and personal to the planes with guys that may have flown them or knew someone who did. Cool stuff for anyone interested in military history.

What is the gun that's being operated by the guy in the red shirt? I sat in one of those frame type things that had been on a ship & it was nowhere as luxurious. I think the one I sat in was WWII.
ReplyDeleteAnti-Aircraft, I don't know the exact model. I do remember a sign saying the ordnance it fired were 5lb explosive shells.
ReplyDeleteThe kid in red cranks and rotates the gun and his cousin cranks the gun up and down. They fired with a foot trigger.
Check out the overlooked Spielberg movie 1941 for several scenes with the AA gun.
ReplyDeleteYou should check out the Warbird Museum over at Clermont Co Airport.
