MadTree Brewing

Make like a tree and...drink a beer

Most anything that isn't downtown, for me at any rate, takes the planning a preparation of an extended Himalayan adventure. Which explains why it took so long for me to finally visit MadTree Brewing. A visit I had been anticipating greatly. I met Brady Duncan, got a beer then wandered around around.

I liked the spare design of MadTree's bar and tasting area, everything you need, nothing you don't. Most of what is in the bar area has been repurposed from what was left from the previous businesses occupying the space. The tables were fabricated by Chris Daniel of Brazee Street Studios from found steel and wood doors and he also designed the Madtree logo. The metal grates surrounding and hanging over the bar to define the space were fab'd from cages also left behind by former tenants.

204,000 cans, about the minimum you can buy.

The bourbon barrels are filled with Russian Imperial Stout aging inside. Three are pasteurized three aren't, one is located inside the cooler in case you wonder why there are only five in the picture. Brady told me he thinks they'll enjoy the pasteurized best just because of the process used to prep the barrel, soaking the barrels in hot water beforehand will pull out some of the bourbon taste. Brady hopes when they have three months worth of aging Madtree can blend them into a beer they really like.

All the the water used in the brewing process comes from a spring under the building, they pull it up and then filter and salt it themselves. No need to work at undoing anything that the municipal water has had done to it.

March was Madtree's first month at full capacity, Duncan told me they're selling about what they thought, something they're happy with. Any more and they would need to buy more kegs, an expense they're not quite ready for yet.
April 15th official launch date for cans and they'll be released at Jungle Jim's first.
The Reds are also selling Madtree in cans out of the beer cave located on the 3rd base line.

MadTree Brewing's Open House and party, tomorrow April 13 from 5pm to 1 am.
C’est Cheese will provide food but I was told they wouldn't be opposed to anyone carrying in a pizza or their own food.
They are located at 5164 Kennedy Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio MAP[where: 45202] best place to learn how to live downtown cincinnati ohio the ethos of Cincinnati

  2. I love the PsycHOPathy and and Sprye, the brown is good, not a fan of the Amber Ale.
But then that mirrors my beers tastes over all, so if you love browns and ambers you'll like Madtree's too I bet.

  3. I know that building. What the heck did it used to be?
yeah, sitting at that low point, getting water is probably a lot less of a problem than keeping water out.

    1. I drive by often on the way to Home Depot. Exterminators/pest control, I believe. (Maybe they kept rats in those re-purposed cages, har har.)

  4. Its almost directly across the street from the 71N entrance ramp. Other than that I have no idea what it used to be.

  5. The building used to be Scherzinger pest control. Everything I've had from Madtree, I've been impressed with. We'll probably stumble down the hill from P-Ridge and check them out tomorrow.
