And I guess if everyone in the bullpen had to have a meltdown sooner or later they might as well get it over with in one game.

while you were on your couch complaining there was nothing to do........

I found these guys.
You know those teachers from all over the country that are in Cincinnati to score the Advanced Placement (AP) examinations?
Yeah, neither did I until I stopped and talked to these guys during their pickup game of soccer. Turns out after sitting around grading tests all day they have lots of energy to burn off.
Talked to one teacher from Atlanta and one from Minneapolis and they were both highly impressed with downtown and The Banks. I guess this test scoring has been going on a few years, they get a paid vacation to Cincinnati, some educational credits and the opportunity to play soccer with other teachers from all over the country.
What I love about it is the unintended use of the space, from skaters on little used stairs and walkways to these guys on some found green space.
The city hates vacuums.

Let's think about that for a second, on the surface it seems like a flippant remark. The end of the 19th century was a dark dirty place, but maybe even back then Twain saw the writing on the wall. The Temperance movement was gaining its stride and Twain certainly didn't want any part of a society with demands on personal freedoms.

I remember a hundred discussions with Jackie, I'm not sure if this is a direct quote of her's, it might be a distillation of those conversations but I remember her saying something along the lines of 'watch out for people who have your best intentions in mind"
Maybe this is what really worried Mr. Twain.

A very timely example of this is the NYC proposed ban of "sugary drinks". Here is what makes this worry some, what is the definition of a sugary drink? Ah, I see, a bunch of lobbyists will hammer that out. And OK, its not a total ban, only on "sugary drinks" larger than 16oz.
"Do you really need 450 grams, 560 grams, 900 grams of sugary soda?" says an unnamed nutritionist. What the hell does that have to do with anything and who are they to tell you how much is too much?

I know, I know, smoking is a dirty filthy habit, but be careful what you wish for.
If you're not killing yourself, you're not really living.
Or as Dan Savage famously says, ""Control should be placed on all" isn't the solution to "I have no self control.""

(R)Evolutions per Minute

Through the magic of facebook I had the opportunity to meet up with some very enthusiastic cyclists this past Sunday. Brent, Stacey and their 4 kids are on a three week adventure around the eastern United States and were in Smale Park to find out if cargo bikes existed in Cincinnati and if so, document them and their owners for Liz Canning's film (R)Evolutions per Minute. The whole process was interesting, and after the filming a couple of us rode the bikes around, gave and got rides, it was all pretty cool. Except for maybe mowing down a dog on a monster cargo bike with Stacey on the back of the bike, sorry @holliewould123. I think I scared your poor puppy more than he scared me.
So that was a fun and informative Sunday but by now Brent, Stacey and all are probably halfway to Troy on their bikes.
