When the river is up, getting around city parks is a beach

Currently, it seems like every person in Cincinnati has been to the riverfront taking pictures. And mixing it up with everyone snapping pictures there were hundreds of kids and dogs roaming around making waves. And of course, there were shallow people wadding in to the tops of their rain boots. But everyone had a whale of a time.
OK, joking aside I know this is a serious matter because peoples homes and businesses are flooded with no relief in sight until the end of the week. People take it for granted living and working in climate-controlled environments that we total mastery over nature. I wonder if part of what draws people down to these natural disasters is the reminder of how little control we actually have.

I think I saw almost every kind of camera imaginable on the riverfront.

I haven't verified this so its hearsay but I had wondered why she didn't hold the rally somewhere designed for it. "That was the plan" I heard, "but they moved it here because the weather was nice"
I have to say with the Roebling as a backdrop it was dramatic.
Over a thousand people in cars will die on Ohio highways this year, but the governor sent the Ohio State Patrol to the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation to help North Dakota beat up peaceful protestors.

The Great Flood of 2015

People were out in mass yesterday, it was warm, but really everyone was out marveling at the river level. Except for a special event, its the most I've ever seen before, you could barely move on the Purple People Bridge.
The river was crazy and wild, the highest its been for 20yrs they say.

Mix water with little boys and rocks and sticks will be tossed.

The water is usually below the 65' mark.

Roebling Bridge

This new work on the Roebling Bridge isn't the biggest project happening in Cincinnati, but sometimes little things have a big impact too. Take for instance the eastern walkway on Roebling Bridge, its not the end of the world that it has been incredibly inconvenient to use, it has only been open from the Kentucky side for ages. But starting June 4th a new section of walkway will be opened to connect the bridge and Covington to Smale Park and all the views that side of the bridge has to offer. yes the western walkway provides this connectivity also, but not without dodging traffic coming off and on the bridge.

This is one section of walkway that wraps around steps allowing pedestrians access to the top level of Smale Park.
Even back when these steps were open they dropped you off into the middle of nowhere, that's all changing at hyper-speed now.

Duke Energy Garden in Smale Riverfront Park

The latest section of the Riverfront Park has opened with what will surely be one of the most popular features, the family porch swings. Someone with an ice cream truck is going to get rich this summer selling cones to people wanting to relax on the swings. The park now offers a river walk that spans from the Roebling Bridge almost to the National Steamboat Monument. Eventually there will be an unobstructed river walk from Yeatsman Cove to PBS.
