Scott Sheridan, busily preparing to open Lunar/Launchpad along with partners Bill Foster, Ryan Goldschmidt, Ron Goldschmidt and Chef Jimmy Gibson took a minute out of his very busy schedule this past weekend to sit down and talk about their newest venture.
The people of Cincinnati had a love/hate relationship with Henry for years, loving his on field performance, and hating his public behavior. No need to elaborate, its all been said many times.
No what made this truly unfortunate is he seemed to have turned a corner in his life both personally and professionally before he tragically died.
Did Chris Henry's passing have an effect on the Bengal's? I still blame everything on ownership but you cannot argue the fact they've only won two or three games since he passed.
Chris's passing would have been tragic and is tragic in itself, but his transformation this year adds that little extra sharpness to it.
I never tire of these pictures, the first of Ms. 5chw4r7z's mom, and one of her aunt. Downtown Cleveland, I think it was Higbee's but I'm not sure.
I feel bad for kids that will never know the joy of finding boxes full of pictures from parents and grandparents like this. Unless they somehow find joy in googling and discovering new flickr pics. But somehow I doubt the thrill would be the same.

the ground shook, the wind picked up and a spray of ice to the face
it wasn't some natural disaster, it was the Cincinnati Cyclones on Fountain Square
it was amazing, with 100 people on the ice all skating in the same direction you can't really tell anyone's out there.
but eight guys throwing thier weight around was a little unnerving with the ice and infrastructure holding it up rumbling like that. It was not unlike a road roller going back and forth, thats exactly what it felt like.

if something is entertaining and engaging, once you realize you can get killed spectating it becomes entertaining x 1000, the only thing missing was beer. the threat of instant death and beer go together like, like, like the threat of imminent death and beer I guess.

One last chance to purchase Christmas gifts and get free food and drinks and you know I'm all about free. Its weird, I get emails and comments sometimes calling me elitist, they think I'm some kind of money machine or something but they miss the whole thrust of this blog, you can live downtown and stay busy every night of the week on the cheap. Of course free things don't walk up and punch you in the face so I think this is the main reason some think there's nothing to do.
Maybe Cincinnati isn't boring, its you?
Any rate between Friday night at Light up OTR and this party I saw at least half the people I know, it was one of those incredible weekends.
Not to be outdone by the CBD, OTR held its own tree lighting Friday. But who are we kidding, in OTR everyones gonna be drinking anyhow so they're always looking for ways to justify it. I'm not complaining, any reason to celebrate and hang out with friends is OK with me.
They even rolled in some dignitaries for the occasion.
For the first time yesterday the Enquirer and some of the TV news media acknowledged that because the streetcar money is comprised of state and federal grants, it cannot be used to pay for police and fire, something that everyone's known the whole time but has been unacknowledged for controversy.
Then this from City Manager Milton Dohoney, Jr;
I am very happy to report that today the Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) Transportation Review Advisory Council (TRAC) unanimously recommended an award of $35 million for Phase 1 of the Cincinnati streetcar project. This award brings the total amount of funding identified for the streetcar project to approximately $150 million. This provides all total capital project costs. In addition, the TRAC also recommended an award of $1.8 million for planning and preliminary engineering for Phase 2 of the streetcar project.
Especially in light of the budget problems facing the city, I am convinced that we must use every economic development tool we can to bring residents, jobs, businesses – and tax revenue – to the city. Together, the streetcar, casino, The Banks, 21c hotel, and other investments generate bigger returns that will stabilize and grow our local economy. The streetcar alone has a $3 return for every $1 invested.
I’d like to thank ODOT Director Molitoris and the members of the TRAC for their commitment to Cincinnati’s streetcar project, in part, as a tool for economic development.
The streetcar is a proven tool for economic development. It is the means by which we grow the city, attract new residents and investment, and grow the city's tax base. Given that tax increases are the "third rail" of our current political climate, the streetcar is an empirical tool for revenue enhancement in the absence of increased taxes.
