Final Friday August Edition

Right out of the gate I knew Friday night was gonna be a good night when I saw Tom Aguero of Queen City Drinks fame in Liberty's Bar and Bottle and he waved me in. Turns out Tony Corder the rep and Eric Bean the head brewer at Columbus Brewing Company were in town for a tap take over. I wonder if these guys, not just Tony and Eric, but brewers in general ever feel like rock stars? I was gushing about how CBC Bodhi is probably my favorite beer and encapsulated everything I love about an IPA. They also had me try their Creeper, a more aggressive IPA which I think you would really have to love to enjoy drinking.

Deeper Roots Coffee

I've been a huge Deeper Roots Coffee fan since I started getting geeky about it a few years ago. Deeper Roots has a coffee cupping on Tuesday afternoons, which I've gone too, you learn a lot quickly when you start comparing roasts side by side. They never had a traditional coffee shop, they just roasted and supplied other coffee shops. I always purchase whole beans at Collective Espresso in OTR.
But a few months ago Deeper Roots Coffee opened their own coffee shop in Oakley in a space attached to the Blue Manatee. I don't make it to Oakley very often but while out running around last week we made a special trip to check out Deeper Roots new space and it was well worth it. A couple pour overs, a cookie and we were caffeinated and on our way.

Northside Cincy Streets

A celebration of the city streets for people instead of cars. Everyone was invited out to run, walk bike and play in the cities greatest public space, it's streets. Its an interesting perspective of the city that you normally don't have. its also liberating not being confined to a small strip to either side of it. It also highlights what I love best about Northside, its nonconformity to standards. I love seeing all the kids and people packing Hamilton Ave for the duration of the event, four hours worth. If you missed it, you can still catch the next planned Cincy Street event in OTR along Pleasant St on September 26th.

Cool concept, the purple represents the aqueduct, 75/74 are the green stalks and the rose in the shape of Northside.

Urban Basin Bicycle Club State St ride

The Urban Basin Bicycle Club kicks off every Tuesday night from Fountain Square at 6:30 sharpish. Some times it even leaves by 7 on a good night. While mostly the rides meander around downtown, OTR and/or the riverfront this ride was a little longer. I loved riding out over Hopple street overpass to Beekman St. There is this short intensely steep hill that provides a downhill ride all the way back to Queensgate and then back downtown. If you've never been on one of the Urban Basin Bicycle Club rides yet grab that creaky old bike and head downtown. What are you waiting for?
There is always a briefing before they leave so everyone is up to speed and know what to expect. Mostly all you need to know is stay in the middle of the pack and everything will be OK.

Mill Creek, voted the best place to spot a three eyed fish or six legged frog by the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce.
Mostly thanks to the P&G factory up stream. But it looks pretty.

Northside

Took a drive out to the Northside a couple weeks ago to escape the insanity that was Lumenocity. Seemed really quiet for a Saturday night, maybe it was too early in the evening. But it worked out, the graffiti in Northside is awesome and makes me a little jealous we don't have any downtown.
Then we got drinks at the Littlefield. If you haven't been yet its a chill little place to hang out.
