Its that time of year again, when bicyclist from all the the Cincinnati basin, the rim and NKY meet on Tuesday Nights at 6:30pm on Fountain Square. Yes its the Urban Basin Bicycle Club and riders of all ages and skill levels are welcome. The rides meander around the basin at a conversational pace. I call it that because although the ride isn't slow, it isn't so fast that one rider can't socialize with another. Along with the comradery of fellow riders, newbies can get used to riding on city streets and realize traffic is no where near as scary as people imagine. And while we acclimate to riding and socializing again there is always something new to learn about the city. For the rides go places we'd never reach walking and we'll see things that would shoot past in a car.
What more could you ask for? Fresh air, new sights to see and streets to discover. Whats that? You ask for a drink at the end? The Urban Basin Bicycle Club has you covered there also with a debriefing at a local adult beverage establishment after every ride.

When I first got an invite to the The Handlebar at Great American Ballpark and was informed I may or may not have a view of the field I didn't get it. Why go to the ballpark if I was going to watch the game on TV? It didn't really make sense. But I guess that's why they invited me. The Reds had the Handlebar suites opened up for us to use and luckily we got seats outside. Still I spent most of the game wondering under what circumstances I would get tickets to the handlebar. But it was walking around to get food and drinks before it really struck home. I kept running into people I knew and I would hangout and talk then be on my way. You see, there were no real barriers between the Handlebar and the field besides the sight lines. Now maybe it wouldn't make total sense to go if it was just me and Ms 5chw4r7z, but what if we had a large group of friends going? Now usually I'd only talk to whoever was to either side of me, but in the Handlebar I would easily be able to talk to all of them and keep an eye on the game at the same time. And it makes even more sense if we wanted something to eat before the game. By time you all spend money and time at a restaurant and then money on tickets, you all could have just easily have bought tickets to the Handlebar and skipped all the aggravation. Especially when you aren't compromising on food or drink, The Handlebar has a laid out spread. So for the price of a couple beers and hotdogs you and your friends could be socializing and watching a ballgame with an open bar and buffet.
A win-win for everyone.

Bridgetown Finer Meats is always the last fish fry of the season, basically because the churches don't do a fry on Good Friday. That leaves the professionals. Now we could probably go about anywhere but the small strip mall that contains Bridgetown Finer Meats is a giant party. We get our fish, next door is a wine tasting and at the end is Jenny's Homemade Cookies. It really doesn't get any better than that. It doesn't feel fair comparing Bridgetown to any church fish frys. The church frys are maned by volunteers and Bridgetown is maned by trained professionals. Not a fair comparison at all. But really, you absolutely have to hit up Bridgetown at least once, its that good. It was cold and rainy so we didn't get to sit outside like we usually do but luckily there was a small space in the front of a closed shop where we hung out and ate fish and drank some wine.

They might as well declare Opening day a city wide holiday, offices and schools all over the city had to be cleaned out judging by the number of people lining the parade route. incredible to see the city and surrounding area come together for at least one thing with all the divisions there are. For one glorious day we're all Reds fans and that's all that matters. People who claim to not understand sports need to experience this spectacle just once.
How funny is it I thought the Nasty boys were a rap band? Ten years in Cincinnati and I still learn something new about the city every day.
