Smale Park Grand opening

Did you visit Smale Park over the weekend? Friday night saw the grand opening party and along with the Asian Fest a block away there were crowds in the park the entire weekend.

OK, I know Greg Hardman is a businessman first and foremost, but, one thing I can't get past and gives me hope for the future is how genuinely excited he is about his new restaurant and the park. He was strolling around the park giddy like a little kid on Christmas morning. If someone is going to lookout for that little corner of the Banks we couldn't ask for a better steward than Greg. Some of his plans for the future are going to blow peoples minds. After talking to him we spent on all night exclaiming OMG can you imagine....
He's infectious.

Smale Riverfront Park

Just in time for the Grand Opening Celebration tonight the Black Brigade Monument, the Walnut Street Fountains & Steps and the Bike, Mobility and Visitor's Center are finished and ready for their debut.
To say the park amazing is an understatement, people were walking around, smiling, trying to take it all in. If you weren't planning on going tonight change your plans now, you won't be disappointed.
The grand opening ceremony, bands and then fireworks. Its gonna be a party and a half.

There are a number of features that remind me of the High Line in New York. But not as delicate.

Flavor Tripping in an old school ice cream parlor

I've been craving ice cream big time lately. Must be spring and thinking about trips to the DQ with dad back in the day.
Hold the Nuts would be cool, or more likely because I can walk there, Greater's.
But right now I have pictures from Aglamesis Brothers so that's gonna have to do until I can get a real cone somewhere.

Urban Basin Bicycle Club

Only appropriate the Urban Basin Bicycle Club group formed just in time for bike month.
From their FB page, "This page is for those bicyclists interested in riding in the Urban Basin, such as downtown and OTR. Let's do some rides that begin and end here in the basin."
All skill levels welcome, if you've been apprehensive about riding on the streets in the city come on out and ride stress free in a big group. Bonus points for rat bikes, they're not racing, just a nice easy pace, no one gets left behind.
All that and a little history on the areas and buildings we're riding past.
This week's featured historic breweries and as you can imagine there was much to see and talk about.
