Washington Park construction

3CDC gave a tour of Washington Park last Saturday highlighting the progress that's occurred and what is left to be done. They are on schedule and on time to complete the park by spring of 2012 and begin a full slate of events similar to what they do at Fountain Square. The majority of money for upkeep of the park will come from income generated during these events. The park will be pretty exciting once finished. A quarter acre dog park, a splash park and play ground and a theater on top of the two acre garage. 3CDC has worked closely with the SPCA in designing the theater so the tie in between the two should be smooth.
A two acre underground garage for 450 cars is in progress and on schedule. The garage will provide parking for the school, Music Hall, surrounding businesses and residents in the immediate area.

All the monuments will be kept although a few have been moved. All the trees that are left will remain and an additional 120 trees will be added to the park.

‘Inspired by Anne’

Did you miss the exhibition at Landor last year during fashion week inspired by fashion illustrator Anne Wainscott?
Did you even know there was an exhibition?
Anne, a fashion illustrator for Shillito’s Department Store and Cincinnati Enquirer for nearly fifty years inspired the employees of Landor to create fashion illustrations and displays of their own.
If you did or didn’t see the exhibit, you know have another chance, the show will run July 16-September 4 in the South Gallery at Cincinnati Museum Center’s Cincinnati History Museum.

we all have something that digs at us, at least we dig each other

Its been scorching hot but there's been a few comfortable evenings here and there. On one of them we hit Covington. Funny, as close as it is we hardly get there. So sitting outside eating appetizers, drinking drinks I was looking around and thinking about OTR. How cool would it be to have these wide sidewalks on Main and Vine Street? If they eliminated parking on each side of the street and extended the side walks for outdoor cafe's OTR would feel just like Paris.
Once the parking garage at Washington Park and Mercer Commons is finished this shouldn't be a problem at all.
EXCEPT, every time I bring something like this up, or something like Sunday Streets, shutting down a whole street to cars on Sunday some people freak out. How will we drive???
WELLLL that's kind of the idea, park and walk around, it will do you good.

We got to talking about Paris and probably the closest place we have to that is Findlay Market. A walkable, bike-able piazza. What attracts people? Dense places like that where you can sit and watch the world go by. people you know walk past and say hi, you stop to pet a dog and exchange smiles with a stranger. We could use another place or two like that downtown.
OK, back to Covington. Who goes to Covington and misses OTR anyhow?


And the end of the evening, an installation I didn't understand. Nights like these I need an artsy friend hanging around to explain it all. Or maybe there wasn't a why, it just was.

Bar 506

A bar should be the kind of place that lubricates tensions, rather than aggravating them. And Bar 506 in the new Residents Inn on 4th does just that. Don't even slow down in the bar, keep walking until you find yourself on the patio.
It was really warm when we stopped in, a little bit of a breeze but not enough. Once the temps dip this place will be perfect to hang out for a drink. The food was delicious and inventive. But wow, even at happy hour prices this place isn't cheap. next time will be drinks only, its just everything looked so good...

meanwhile over here on the internet....

we hit a yelp event
got there early before it got too crowded to take pictures. Then it got too crowded.
saw all the besties I wanted to see and a few more too.
was it hot? was it ever, and not just hot, it was sweat rolling down your face hot.
the food was good, the beer cold but the crowd was overwhelming after an hour so we made our exit.

i didn't think of it until later when someone brought up how many people were there and how there was no way out.
what if there had been a panic at the disco?
things i never think of until its too late.
kinda like how the state department said to avoid crowds in Paris and we found ourselves at a festival with a hundred thousand other people.

UPDATE: I want to mention, I wasn't really trying to avoid the community manager, I know Alex and he was so busy I never saw him. Just ribbing him a little but it fell flat. We did have a good time while we were there or I never would have blogged about it.
