Christmas Saengerfest

Saengerfest: a singer festival, a competition of Sängerbunds, or singer groups, with prizes for the best group or groups. Participants numbered in the thousands and tens of thousands in the early 20th Century.
Once a large feature of the Cincinnati social scene has been revived by American Legacy Tour.
The guys from American Legacy Tour struck by the World Choir Games' performances and how popular the choirs were this summer decided to bring back the Cincinnati tradition to show off local choirs, churches and architecture in Cincinnati.
Running December 14th & 15th the Christmas Saengerfest will be held in 5 venues featuring 40 choirs.
Venues include the Christian Moerlein Brewery, First Lutheran Church, Nast Trinity, St. Francis Seraph & historic Memorial Hall. Each space will include choral performances, refreshments, markets and holiday decorations!
The choirs will perform hourly to give people time to wander from church to church. There will also be shuttles running between the locations for anyone not wishing to walk.

The City Flea December

You really couldn't have asked for a better evening for The City Flea. Nestled in Washington Park, watched over by Music Hall it was an incredible night. Did I mention food? Along with the food trucks, hello Wheels Burger at Cafe De Wheels, there was a new food startup, Brown Bear Bakery, supplying small batch hand crafted pastries. I had a bourbon s'more pie, rich and bourbony, I highly recommend checking them out.
This has me thinking, the high tech guys have the Brandery, someone needs to start a food incubator. It seems like Fountain Square filled that role in a small way but people can no longer have tents on the Square. Seems like an incubator, a welcoming place for new cooks to try their craziest ideas would be a welcome addition to the city, maybe Findlay Market is the logical place to put it.

what the cool kids will be doing this weekend

You follow my footsteps daily, or for some, weekly. but how would you like to precede 5chw4r7z's footsteps for once?
Doing so will take strength of character, boldness and a just a little direction.
First thing you're gonna do this Saturday is make your way to 207 Woodward St in OTR for Collective Espresso's first official day, 8am to 4pm and get an amazing coffee.

Then on to Findlay Market for some soup or a breakfast sandwich at Skirtz & Johnston. Or maybe a waffle at Taste of Belgium.

There will be a Cincinnati Santacon, a crowd of Santas roaming downtown/OTR starting at noon on Fountain Square and going to the wee hours of the evening.
The Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run/Walk will start at 10am in Covington and cross the river into Cincinnati and back.
Enjoy Caroling the Quarter, local choirs and roving carolers perform throughout OTR as you browse the shops.
Don't miss the Snowflake Sale at the Art Academy where students, faculty and alumni will be selling artwork.
You could also take in an American Legacy Spirit of Christmas Tour that takes you in and out of area churches.

You'll wrap it all up at The City Flea held in Washington Park from 5pm to 10pm. The City Flea showcases the best in food, beverages and crafts to finish up your Christmas shopping.

chasing ghosts in Music Hall

Built on what was once a paupers graveyard Music Hall has had reports of ghosts from day one. And while we didn't see any ourselves we got to see the places and hear the stories of where people have repeatedly seen the ghosts. One of the most haunted spots is the freight elevator where in the 1980s the foundation was broken through for repairs and the remains of 63 people we found.
Gallery box nine where Louise Nippert always sat is also a frequently haunted spot.

OtrAGLOW

OTR is having a little storefront and window display competition, OtrAGLOW, some cool stuff going on there. There is a map you can use but it makes more sense just to grab a coffee at the Coffee Emporium or 1215 Wine bar and wander around.
Better yet, show up tomorrow night, Wednesday Dec 5th for the OTRAGLOW Bar Crawl when there will be specials at many of the bars and restaurants.
