Not old school like old skool, but old schools, some really old. Amazing how many schools were packed into OTR, Pendleton and the West End at one time. Touring around to see them made for another relaxing ride around town. Last Tuesday was hot, like 90 something hot but there was still a large turnout, we rode past a couple kids counting and I was around the middle of the pack when they called out 29.
Shifting gears, Urbancincy has a nice writeup of the rising popularity of social bike rides focusing on UBBC leaving from the urban core instead of ending up there.
The ride meets every Tuesdayat Fountain Square at 6:30pm, and leaves sometime after that.

A couple weeks ago a bunch of bloggers got a behind the scenes tour of the Cincinnati Museum Center and one of the stops was the green roof on the southern part of the building that is not open to the public. This living roof is pretty cool and accomplishes a couple things. The plants reflect heat keeping the roof cooler avoiding heat gain in the building easing the load on AC and the electric bill. The second thing it does is absorb rain water easing the strain on the cities over taxed sewer system. I would propose it accomplishes a third thing, education. The public learns a little about being green and the roof is an ongoing classroom for the museum center as they learn what plants thrive which don't and how much care they require. Important knowledge that can be passed onto other businesses or institutions that would consider a green roof.

Metro, struggling with budget cuts, negative perception and a stagnant ridership has embarked on a new ad campaign featuring regular riders. Although the riders they selected are maybe more regular than most.
I was asked if I'd be willing to participate and eagerly said yes wondering how the process of making an ad works.
The whole thing happened much as I expected. If you imagine doing something like this is glamorous I'm here to burst that bubble. Unless you think repeating a line 100 times is glamorous. But the whole process of creation, watching it happen and talking to the other "actors" and people creating the ad was enlightening.
I showed up on set in a blue shirt I had thrown on last minute, I remembered the email specifying a blue, green or red clothes. The director glanced at me pondering, then exclaimed, 'everyone has wore blue today" Yes, its kind of what was asked, but I offered to run back home and put on what I was originally going to wear, then did and everyone liked it better anyhow.
Turned out to be a really good time.
Funny how when I get nervous I mess with my wedding ring.

Or more precisely, The Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal offer us an opportunity to go behind the behind the scenes and get a first hand look at the deterioration going on in the building.
It wasn't meant to be decay p0rn but to highlight the challenges the building is facing, budget cuts don't paint a rosy future for rehab and preventative maintenance. It was a hot cramped dirty tour, but very enlightening.
