a pizza with a side of streetcar

Its funny, there are people, I guess they're still trying to convince themselves, that everything that has happened in OTR over the last two years would have happened anyhow, the streetcar has nothing to do with it. That is an epic level of denial when the founders of these business claim they picked their location expressly because of the streetcar. Hell business owners from other cities are locating in Cincinnati because of the streetcar.
Exhibit A is Pi Pizzeria located steps from a streetcar stop downtown. This St Louis based company had no reason to open up shop in Cincinnati, but that is the power of transit.
Transit has gravity and pulls people to it.
The other thing is, opponents who keep going on and on about OTR completely forget that The University of Cincinnati's economic impact study found that 70-75% of development would be downtown. So we haven't seen anything yet.
Well we have seen one thing, and that thing is St Louis style pizza.
What is St. Louis-style pizza? The crust is made without yeast and has more texure and mouth feel than traditional pizzas. The filing is also more tomato, less sauce than say a soupy Chicago style pizza. Pi Pizzeria, a thin crust or deep dish plus a huge selection of local beers on tap, you can't ask for much more than that. Expect for the streetcar to be operating right now of course.

Less than nine months from now there will be a streetcar where that bus is.

  2. Businesses fail at an alarming rate when they don't get the traffic they project from development that depends on the residents of the surrounding area. I hope the economic conditions change where city dwellers can enjoy the vitality of the investment.
