Senate Blue Ash

Ms 5chw4r7z has been wanting to check out Senate Blue Ash since they opened because of their outdoor seating. When the 'Nomerati's, Laura and David invited us to brunch we jumped at it. That is my first visit to Summit Park, the park is impressive and dramatic. But it felt so weird, its landlocked, or maybe road locked would be a better term. At any rate, Senate, if you have even eaten at either location you already know how good the food is and brunch didn't disappoint.

Laura ordered the Birthday Cake Pancakes as a appetizer and for a laugh. They were saturated to a molecular level covered with funfetti glaze & crushed birthday cake oreos. I thought they were going to be cross eyed sweet but they struck a perfect balance. The panacakes were so good I immediately regretted not ordering the Neapolitan Pancakes. Luckily the Bacon & Egg Muffin was awesome, so I wasn't bitter about it.

The Bay Horse Cafe

The Bay Horse Cafe reopened last night. I have a good feeling this is going to be the neighborhood bar all the other bars try to be. Just a little off the beaten path but still close to all the action. The bar is stuffed full of history, old news paper clippings, old pictures and some old fixtures.
The Bay Horse Cafe has had a storied past for sure, the structure was built in the mid 1800's. The Bay Horse bar itself survived Prohibition, and a couple of moves as buildings were demo'd out from under it. The bar was originally located where Government Square is now and where the horse wandered in off the street thus coining the name.
I remember walking past it when I moved to Cincinnati in 2004 and looking in I thought, "no way I'm going in there" It looked sketchy as hell. I think it shut down a year or so after due way too many police calls and a fatal shooting in broad daylight. Then came 2012 and the Aronoff filed paperwork to demo the Bay Horse building. I don't remember all the details except that people were upset, and unlike the Dennison, the Bay Horse survived to live another day. Back then the Historic Conservation Board wasn't stocked with the mayor's pro-demo buddies thank goodness. A facebook friend said, "The Bayhorse was one of the dirtiest, smokiest, and drug filled bars 15 years ago. So happy to see it come back looking spanking new. Tribute to how much things have changed downtown."
We should all be glad it did, the bar and the space is amazing. Bring your thirst, those schooners are huge.

Once upon a time The Bay Horse sold more Little Kings than any other bar on the planet. Jenny swung through Cincinnati for a minute yesterday to try and help them get that honor back.

Northside 4th of July Parade

This is my favorite parade of the year in Cincinnati. A laid back party, the crowd is as much a part of the spectacle as the parade is. Hanging out with friends, seeing tons of friends marching... good times.

The Rhined

So a funny story because anyone who knows me knows I don't like cheese. OK, I always joke I like two kinds of cheese, pizza cheese and shredded. The joke being that shredded cheese is pizza cheese, but I digress.
I stopped at the OTR Candy Bar for an ice cream cone and stood outside eating it and looking at a new shop that had just opened, The Rhined. So since Ms. 5chw4r7z and many of my friends love cheese I thought I would poke my head in. From an aesthetic standpoint the space, display and yes, even the cheese looked appealing. Next thing I know, Stephanie Webster, the owner is handing something over the counter saying try this, its made from water buffalo milk. I probably made the weirdest face ever and she goes, just try it. OK, just remember I don't like cheese. I ended up trying that, a Swiss and a Parmesan, every time she would hand me another sample I'd remind her, "not a cheese fan, just dropped in to look". But she wasn't going to be discouraged from her mission of spreading the love of cheese, I'll give her that.
I'm still not a fan but at least I've confirmed it.
I guess the moral of the story is don't wander into a cheese shop just to gawk.
