Cool find this week at SSOM, Hopwater. Created in Cincinnati and Made in Cincinnati.Brandon Dawson, one of the creators told me they've been doing market testing and plan to the product on store shelves in December. Hopwater isn't fermented, its dryhopped and isn't over powering. I liked the bite of the Ginger Tonic the best and the tartness of the Grapefruit.
I bet Hopwater is a hit, I love seeing new Cincinnati made products.
When we hit Portland one of the places Ms 5chw4r7z wanted to try was Vodoo Doughnut. If you're on social media and follow people who travel you can't avoid the place. I've been seeing pictures of lines out the door for years. We tracked the place down, paid our dues in line and got our donuts. I have to say if I had ate them a year ago they would have been the greatest donuts I've ever tasted. But since Holtman's opened in OTR they're just awesome donuts, just as good as Holtman's.
Which got me thinking, there was a social media frenzy after Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives featuring OTR and a Cincinnati story in the New York Magazine.
Cincinnati has a self esteem issue. are we a little too desperate for validation?
The more I've traveled the more I've come to appreciate just how awesome the Queen City is.
The food scene is second to none, Cincinnati has architecture with a sense of history other cities would kill for.

Sadly we're transitioning big time into fall, you couldn't even say it was cool and crisp, it was just cool and cloudy. But it didn't seem to slow the City Flea down. The next couple Fleas will just be remnders about winter and Christmas coming with the Flea taking place at the 21c in November and the Christmas Flea in December.

We roamed around Portland, Vancouver and Seattle last week and I'm still trying to digest and process just how forward thinking and progressive the places are. What struck me the most were the amount of people on bikes. The entire time we were there a bike was in my field of vision. As one left another would appear. I didn't see the amount of bike lanes I expected but that doesn't mean bike lanes didn't exist. Every couple blocks we would cross a Central Ave style bike lane with bollards and parked cars separating car traffic and bikes. And less often a full blown bike boulevard with a strip of grass and trees separating cars and bikes. But there were bikes everywhere all the time. In the morning guys in suits and women in dresses were heading to work. It was a moment for me seeing working bike messengers in Portland. And of course people everywhere riding for the pure pleasure of it. The conservatives in Cincinnati love to point out that Cincinnati is different than Portland.
Man, they have no idea, the mindset there is a complete 180 from here.
You probably haven't heard much yet on Yes on 8 but that is about to change with a couple big announcements.
First is the Yes on 8 Action Center opening on Thursday.
This Thursday, Oct 9th, the National Trust for Historic Preservation will open the doors to an interactive pop up space designed to build support for Issue 8 – the Hamilton County ballot initiative that would help raise much needed funds to restore Union Terminal.

There will be photos will be on display highlighting both the beauty and need for repair at Union Terminal.
A collaboration with the My Union Terminal Campaign Committee, the Yes on 8 Action Center will be a one stop shop for saving an iconic piece of Hamilton County’s history. Visitors will be able to learn more about the restoration plan, add their memories to a community story wall, pledge their vote, and even step inside Union Terminal’s iconic murals for a special photo opp. And of course, there will be boat loads of “Yes on 8” buttons and yard signs for the taking.

The Yes on 8 Action Center will be open daily from 11am - 6pm until the election.
The other big announcement is based on social media, the “Thunderclap Campaign”. The Cincinnati Museum Center hopes to gather at least 500 people to blast out tweets and facebook updates all at the same time. They state "We need to get 500 people to commit to post and tweet our “Save Union Terminal” message in unison on October 21. I bet they get way more people than that but with 500 people committed to this they’ll reach a critical mass on social media. The hashtag #VoteYesUT will instantly be a trending topic on twitter and facebook that day from the sudden surge of posts."

We all agree on one thing, The Union Terminal is in desperate need of help. Lets not kick the can any farther down the road. The Union Terminal needs repairs now, the sooner we do it the less it will cost.

Liberty's Bar & Bottle is a chill little place that opened recently at 1427 Main St. The kind of cool little neighborhood place that every bar starts out as. I love the French doors that open out to the world turning it into an outdoor place. Its kind of funny though it opened just in time for the weather to turn. A good beer selection, and good wine selection, just about everything you could want.
