So I was on Fountain Square one night cutting through during their unplugged Thursday, an acoustic music event. It was being sponsored that night but a local Baptist church. The preacher started out the opening prayer with
“These are hard times, troubled times.”
I looked around the Square and observed I was probably the only person not wearing at least a couple hundred in clothes.

The reason I bring this up now is that preachers and politicians are always selling bad news aren’t they? Doom and gloom, I mean look how bad the economy is. But I guess that’s Bush’s fault also, he can’t do anything right, it was simple, all he had to do was make the rich richer and the poor poorer but he can’t even get that right. Ron Haskins of the Brookings Institution noted
“the bottom fifth (poorest people) increased its earnings by 80 percent”
All this mismanagement under Bush’s watch, wow.

The Waldo

Our good friend Jackie has moved across the street from us into the Waldo at Elm and 8th.
w00t!.
Of course she's been in London since then so it really hasn't meant much, but its still cool, she was the first, or one of the first new residents in there. Which sometimes can be a bad thing as she is trouble shooting all the various utility issues that come with a brand new refurb.
Oh, and by now a million people have told me about the Graeters on Reading Rd, but here's my thought, would you rather enjoy a scoop of mocha chocolate chip on Fountain Square or on the side of Reading Rd in Avondale?
Thought so.

The guys were at it again, Sunday night, behind Bogarts in Clifton.

Pa-leez tell me you guys are hammering out the streetcar!

Another interesting aspect of a long vacation is I saw Mr. Tarbell on his scooter everyday. Last Friday he had John Schneider?(I think thats who that is) along for a ride. Man I really hope they were hammering out some streetcar details.

Youngstown's Paramount Theater

So after I dropped the nieces Lehman off yesterday afternoon, I visited some old friends, neighbors and family then made a detour through downtown Youngstown. Like Cincinnati they are trying to revive the downtown area but are struggling with a much steeper hill to climb. They do have their share of interesting history and architecture though, West Federal Street is full of it, and the old Paramount Theater has been turned into a “Museum Without Walls”. It contains pictures, ads and program covers from the old theater as well as street scenes and neighboring buildings. And just as Cincinnati has the pig, Youngstown has the penguin, with versions of them all over town.











UPDATE: So Ms. 5chw4r7z asks, "Whatya think of the blue bridge being gone?" You know the bridge I drove over 1,896,357 times while living on the North Side?
Dang I totally drove over the 7/11 connector and didn't even realize it wasn't there!

Movie Night on Fountain Square

Obviously nothing that Cincinnati does will ever get people back downtown again, and the new square is a complete failure....NOT.
The Square was packed again, you could barely make your way through the crowd. One thing I thought was really awesome was the look on peoples faces as they came out of the garage, they would hesitate for a second, maybe wondering what they were stepping into faced with the mass of people sitting around on a Saturday evening, then they would get this huge grin and continue on their way. The whole evening was even better with a few nieces thrown in for extra fun.




OK, you got me on this one..THEY stopped selling Graeter's at the Garfield Suites. Dang, we have to drive out to the sticks, way out to Hyde Park to get an ice cream cone.
HEY.. we like ice cream downtown too ya know.

Ittttttts Hot in Cincinnati!

We were cookin yesterday and its only going to get hotter.
The Lehman girls are in town visiting too, we were in the pool for about 9 hours yesterday.
