Shepard Fairey, the controversy continues
Twitter absolutely exploded yesterday afternoon with news Shepard Fairey's mural in Covington had been painted over. You can find all the sordid details here, but some of the comments like "its a foreigner with an American rifle!" blew my mind. really guy, thats what you got from a mural portraying children pulled into the ugliness of war in 3rd world countries?
We were driving around, talked to Kimberly Holmes from Fox19 and then stumbled upon Fairey finishing up a mural on Walnut. You can read that story here with a quote from me at the end.
Crazy day all around it was.

Shepard Fairey Supply and Demand
In what has been the most hyped, anticipated and ok, at least since I've been in Cincinnati, the most controversial show, Fairey's Supply and Demand opened Friday to what had to be record crowds. I heard stories that at one point the line stretched to 7th St while we wandered the gallery amazed. I'm not going to rehash what Fairey's critics have claimed, its all been said too many times. I think my definition of art, "does it raise strong emotions?" has been fully met by Fairy. Love him or hate him everyone has strong opinions. I've never discussed art with a more diverse group of people before.
Upon entering the galleries and finally getting a close up look at his work my biggest surprise was the depth and layers in even the simplest of his compositions. The longer it was studied them, the more details revealed themselves.
Mr. Fairey, well done.
What better way to kick off the evening than a drink created and mixed by Molly Wellman for the show?
If anyone in Cincinnati is a bigger rockstar than the 5chw4r7z its Molly.
The gallery's were relatively empty for about an hour before the gates opened to the general public and a tidal wave of humanity flowed in.
The buzz got so intense Friday afternoon I was making myself sick.
Then @redrabbit asked me to grab her and @prolix21 a poster. No probs, the favor took some of the edge of waiting for the show to open.
Its a good thing I grabbed them one, the limited edition prints signed by the artist sold out by ten.
It was so nice to finally meet them after knowing them at least a year online. Although they're from Cincinnati, they've vowed to take another look at their city and rediscover it, and blog it along the way in their Cincinnati Re-adventure.
Fairey also spent half of last week installing 7 awesome murals around the city.

The twitter world was on fire this afternoon with news that Fairey's first installation for his upcoming show Supply and Demand has gone up on 8th St next to Arnold's.
