Lunken Aviation Days

An airport open house they hold once a year, the B-17G Flying Fortress “Aluminum Overcast” made a visit and hosted tours, you could go for a ride in it too if you wanted, wasn't cheap though.
I remember last year we stumbled on this accidentally while riding our bikes when the B-17 flew over head. This year we were turned onto it through twitter. This year and last year are night and day, it was unseasonably warm and sunny last year, cold and spitting rain this year. Still an awesome day to geek out over some airplanes.

  1. Living right by the airport, all I can tell ya is that these babies are really loud! Spent the whole day out on the porch, thinking we were all getting bombed. :)

  2. I have never given much thought to Lunken. I read a biography of P Crosley & now it sounds really interesting.
Have you done the Air Force Museum up Daytonways?

  3. This summer my son and I took a ride on the B-17, the Memphis Belle, I think. 30 minutes over Cincinnati from Lunken up to King Islands then we strafed Indian Hill. Top hatch was open and our hair was blowing in the wind. Amazing. Not cheap but if you get a chance, take it.

  4. Quim, I have been to the Air Force Base Museum at Wright Patt, pretty awesome stuff. The best part was walking around with my dad listening to stories of various Viet Nam era planes we saw while over there.
