American Sign Museum
Jackie, Ms 5chw4r7z,a few other friends and I went to the Essex Studios ArtWalk, the artists there are all incredible, but the highlight for me was the American Sign Museum. If you are into nostalgia and Americana, and lets face it who isn’t you need to find time to visit this place. We walked around looking at the neon with grins that threatened to split our faces. One surprise although I don’t know why, those things pump off some heat. Don’t wait until next August to go.
The Banks, the streetcar and Cincinnati sucks
Still timely a year and a half later, I posted this last May.
After floating around the pool all day and listening to one of the other downtown residents complain about how everything in Cincinnati is run like crap and it could all be done better, Ms. 5chw4r7z and I talked about how no-one ever has anything good to say about their city. I guess that applies to us also because we were hell bent on getting out of Youngstown. So it is timely and funny I came across this post tonight of Miss Izzy complaining about how boring Singapore is. I guess if you grew up there maybe, but I bet it would take a long time for me to get bored there.
Every denizen in every city on the face of the Earth will have something shit to say about their city, and their living conditions. Where ever you go, this rule will hold through. Complaints range from the city’s ruling elite being corrupt, to roads that remain yet to be mended for years and years, to not enough aid to too much aid, to rising living cost, awful architecture. Etcetera, etcetera.
Chase +1
You would think that college kids have enough problems with credit cards and finances that the Chase wouldn't need to come up new and creative ways to bankrupt them. The students seem to do a good job on their own.
Didn't stop me for looking around for someone to give me a free ride though, although they must have been at lunch just like me.
Bengals @Fountain Square and Rock Bottom Brewery
Summer finally decided to roll over and die. The ice rink is undergoing construction and takes up most of the square now. Cool and windy, the lady in the fountain was soaking anyone foolish enough to get very close to her, I finally settled back by the 5/3 Building and then noticed the new entrance for Rock Bottom was complete and looks pretty good, even though I got scooped by Dan at Queen City Survey I’m still posting a picture. Can’t be too much longer before everything is totally finished.
The Greenup Cafe
When we talk about doing something we really want to do, it seems like we never actually get around to doing it. Today was the day we stopped talking and headed south across the river to the Greenup Cafe. Everything we've heard about it had been good and we weren't let down. Greenup has multiple dining rooms so the people in each were limited to 10 or so, there was an enjoyable low hum of people talking that didn't over power our conversation. As we settled down into the red room, we were comfortable and relaxed, which the courteous staff and delicious coffee added to. Ms. 5chw4r7z and I both ordered the The French Croissant perdue which I guess is French for a croissant smashed flat and French toasted, with sauteéd fruit and whipped cream on top hmmmmm.
Mica 12/v
The grand opening of Mica 12/v yesterday, I love this store! (For those of you not hip to OTR 12/v is 12th and Vine) Mica’s new location fits right in the neighborhood, if you like Metronation and Park+Vine you’ll like Mica 12/v also. The products offered don’t over lap but seem to complement the other two stores products. The Gateway Quarter just gets better and better, maybe once Jean-Robert opens his restaurant Metronation will stay open for Final Friday?
An aside,
At midpoint we ran into George from Metronation and he shouts out “5chw4r7z” and we talk for a minute and then Ms. 5chw4r7z walks up and he says hi to her and we’re talking then Ms. 5chw4r7z says something to me and George asks, “you two know each other?” She screws up her face and says, “we’re married!”
True story.
So at Mica 12/v I’m talking to this lady from Mason and we’re discussing downtown and OTR and I’m telling her my wife and I live here etc., when Jackie walks up and asks if we can leave.
One more person Ms. 5chw4r7z is going to have to explain to.
Walking home we happened upon the Artworks gallery opening of Alters,Idols, and Icons.

Sunset on the Ohio
I don't care how long I live at Parker Flats, I'll never grow tired of this. What night does noone have anything going on? Monday, Tuesday?
I'm going to do a sunset party on the roof every week.

U.C.'s Medical Sciences Building (MSB)–CARE/Crawley Building
U.C.'s $185 million Medical Sciences Building (MSB)–CARE/Crawley Building is coming together fast now. They've gotten to the point it looks like they are ready to start landscaping. We only have one data closet up and running so I'll be one of the first to now when construction is complete and we bring the other data closets online.
