Nicholson’s closed for "renovations"

Nicholson's

Its funny how closed for "renovations" has become the cure for what ails you among restaurants and bars. I remember back when what was McFaddens closed for "renovations" when really they had been busted serving minors and were shutdown for 3 days.
Which takes us to last week, I met up with Dave, of UrbanCincy.com fame and his lovely fiancee after their epic cake tasting day for drinks at Nicholson's. Dave was in the mood for scotch and wanted a flight, the bartender mumbled something about not really having anything available for a flight and they went back and forth and a beer appeared.
What, you just decide on a beer Dave?
No, she decided I'd have a beer. Say Bob did you hear anything about them losing their liquor license?
Nope, that's weird, and we looked around 5pm on a weekday we were the only people in the bar. How weird is that?
And now they're closed for"renovations"

  1. That is crazy. We were just there a few weeks ago and it was hopping. Perhaps the troubles stem from them taking the sweet potato mash off the menu!!!! Ok, maybe it's something else, but I do wish they'd bring it back....

  2. Yes, their liquor license was cancelled. You can confirm it here about midway down the page. Do a "Find on this page" for 45202.

  3. From a PR perspective, they handled this VERY poorly. The Enquirer article makes it sound as if they simply made an error on their application. So just say that already. "Closed for renovations" and all the secrecy serves ZERO purpose except to cover a bruised ego.

  4. It will be interesting to see what comes of the space. Nicholson's never really had a foot traffic issue and with the streetcar line running just outside it in a few years this spot should be highly coveted.

    Thanks for the post Bob!
