Woodburn

Getting out of the car for the gallery opening at Manifest, I stopped frozen, blinked and looked around.
What an awesome incredible street. Looking north the view ended at a church and looking south, the view of the street ended as it rounded a corner.
What a marvelous block to encapsulate what makes a city truly a grand place.

  2. This is a couple blocks east on McMillan from me. The last few blocks of Woodburn have a strange urban feel even though its surrounded by old school 100yo+ suburb type houses.

I'm people have been saying this for years, but to me it seems like EWH is ripe for some rehabbing; the spot you've photographed is just up the road from O'Bryonville, and then onto Hyde Park/Oakley. To bad we don't get a streetcar (A Peebles Corner-Hyde Park Sq line would be sweet).

  3. When I was taking the pictures I was thinking about how awesome a streetcar would be rolling through there.
The street there is as dense as any in OTR, young professionals would fill the place up wouldn't they?

  4. I used to ride the Metro to work through this area everyday. they've been trying to rehab this area for years, and the recent progress they made is excellent. though, for all that money, remodeled spaces for stores with great visibility and apartments with huge s.f. still sit empty...unfortunately there's still a certain perception about the area.

kinda reminds me of OTR, and that's really sad.

  5. I was disappointed when I saw the initial streetcar plans because it missed out on Walnut Hills/East Walnut Hills, which like OTR is a diamond in the rough. Serious consideration should be given for a line that runs up Gilbert Ave (stops at the entrance of Eden Park for quick access to the Art Museum) and connects in some way with Madison Road. A line/loop down McMillan from UC to Madison Ave or MLK Drive would be awesome as well.

  6. You know, Downtown/OTR is just the biginning right?
They picked what they thought would have the biggest splash, but in every city a streetcar has been built people have clamoured for expansion. Clifton, Northside and Walnut Hills are some of the first neighborhoods that would see expansion.
    Probably within 5 years.

  7. Did you see the huge apartment(?) complex going up just North of Madison on Woodburn behind those new apartments at the corner? This may help the neighborhood.

Thanks for the Felix photo. I admire that doorway everytime I go by.

  8. That church is beautiful, it looks like it would dominate the skyline when viewed from a distance. What area is this in?

  9. Hey, you were in Nomerati territory!

I'd love to write about E. Walnut Hills and Woodburn, given how much effort is being put into sprucing it up, but I can't think of any great attractions. The coffee shop, Moca, is nice, but that's about it. Seny went out of business and there's nothing else around.

    Sad indeed.

  14. Amanda...Just make sure you don't leave anything visible inside of your car. As long as you do that you should not have problems.
