consistency

"In baseball, my theory is to strive for consistency, not to worry about the numbers. If you dwell on statistics you get shortsighted, if you aim for consistency, the numbers will be there at the end." ~ Tom Seaver
The Reds haven't been too consistent lately. Last year the weird hops went their way, this year the hops go against them.
But how do you account for luck? HA, there is a formula for it amazingly.
Take the runs scored squared divided by the runs squared plus the runs allowed squared. The product should equal the winning percentage.
Last year the winning percentage was over that number, the Reds had a better record than they should have.
This year for the Reds, RS2 / RS2 + RA2 = .539 as of Tuesday afternoon their record was .500, so they are under performing.
Votto maybe under-performing, but he is trying.
Seems to me this applies to life too. Be consistent in your message to your family, friends and employers. You're not going to hit a home run every time, but you can't give up without trying either, keep hitting singles the the occasional home run will follow.
