Keith Haring at the CAC
I think the CAC is on to something with streetart, the Keith Haring crowd was the biggest I'd seen at the CAC since Shepard Fairey.
"my 4yr old could do that!" How many times how you heard that and wanted to scream? Sure, maybe, but your 4yr old hasn't been through art school. The value of these retrospectives is seeing the progression as an artist, and if he wasn't a very good artist, he did manage to find a style that resonated and then beat the god out of it.
His texts and diaries were illuminating giving us a small peek into the demons running around in his head.
The NYTimes says; "Keith Haring was not a great artist. He might not even have been a very good one. But he was the right person in the right place at the right time, and he had a seemingly inexhaustible supply of just the right energy: a radiant, joyful enthusiasm that he shared with unflagging vitality first on the streets of New York and then on the world stage."
This is a Jimmy Baker, I like the imagery, the last battle scene of the Matrix series and Aliens all rolled into one.
