Parker Flats Friday

First off, a story Elizabeth Bronson interviewed us for the Cincinnati Magazine has finally come out, read it here.

And boy, almost everyday I say there won't be too many more days like today but there always are.
I'm not complaining.
And the Bengals, Who Dey!!
The day began with a loud roar.

be-boppin bar-hoppin Thursday night

Hands down hardest bar to relax in?
Don't know why. All the poseurs?
Could be, just never got settled in, it looks funkadelic at first blush but certainly wears thin quick, of course it doesn't stop the line standers on Saturday night, so what do I know.
So hey, if you're a line stander, by all means swing by you'll probably fit right in here.
Still my first Cincinnati crush, the Genius of Water.

SUSHI RAMPAGE!!!

I know you rely on the 5chw4r7z for new places, trends and happenings in Cincinnati, a responsibility I take very seriously. Well, when I tell you about this latest one, your heads will explode.
SUSHI!
Yes, I know you're scratching your head wondering what this strange Japanese word means. Its a strange concoction of fish and rice wrapped up in a gooey roll. Drop a paper thin slice of ginger and a dab of green wasabi on it and you're good to go.
If they bring one of these "sushi" joints to Cincinnati, they'll be printing money I tell ya.
The craziest part of the whole evening, besides this strange new form of food is I went with two Indians, and tree-hugger and a feminist.
Of course if you get brave enough to give it a try, you may want to go for the first time with a few normal people, when I go, I go large, that's how I roll.

SUSHI RAMPAGE!!!

SUSHI RAMPAGE!!!

Apparently spoons and forks don't exist on the other side of the international date line.
So I put a big drop of wasabi on the sushi and veganjacob is like "you don't wanna...."
I pop it in my mouth, Mmmm and smile.
"OK maybe you do..."

A joke.
Man goes to doctor.
Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel.
Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain.
Doctor says "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up."
Man bursts into tears. Says "But, doctor...I am Pagliacci."

Forward vs. Backward

A comment from citykin left on my blog;
People think the future is going to be just like today, just repeated. But this city can go in many different directions. I'm an optimist, that is why Cincy is relevant to me.

Made me think about the pro Issue 9 people calling us progressors and in their vocabulary turning progress into a dirty word.

These two opposing points of view speak volumes to me, the people who look forward to and embrace change, and the people looking backwards so hard they fear turning because they may trip.

Elected leaders hijacking the system and pushing expensive, forward looking projects?
Didn't you notice we've turned over city council jettisoning everyone opposed to progress?
OH, you're still looking backwards at all the failed council people we got rid of aren't you?
Explains the fascination with Smitherman.

Now a silly video about taking your ball and going home.

Parker Flats Friday

The last warm days of the season?
It could be but whatever the week has been brilliant so it almost feels like fall going out with a bang doesn't it?
I'll miss sitting out on the deck with a beer and a cigar, shouting at cars blasting by at 4mph that if they lived downtown they could be home already.
Wednesday, four more accidents, 4 more hours of cars backed up outside but hey, its always worked before, so rather than change, which is scary as shit, lets keep doing the safe thing, the easy thing, which just happens to be sitting in stop and go traffic forever.

As a total aside, Brodi3man and I got on the Mainstreet/Eden shuttle and I have to say, nothing can possibly make you feel older than the sturm und drang of a bus filling full of chatty 20yr old college girls.
I got a smile from one of them with that"hey its grandpa" twinkle in her eye.

DA-AMN that burger was good!
Now I have to go back to Terry's Turf Club to decide who has the best burger in Cincinnati.
The fact that Terry's serves alchy-hal is going to weight heavy, but until I try it again I'll have to go on the record saying five Guys has the best burger hands down.

No on #9 in Cincinnati

In case you are confused, and this issue is confusing, the passage of Issue9 will prevent spending "any monies (Chris Finney who wrote the amendment says any means any) on any passenger rail" in the city of Cincinnati without a vote.

I have to say pass or fail, one good thing has come out of the Issue 9 debate, conversation and soul searching as to why I believe what I believe. I’ve been forced to confront assumptions and investigate claims made by both sides.
After all that the glaring difference between the two camps still amazes me. The opponents of Issue 9, Cincinnatians for Progress are full of hope and optimism about the future of Cincinnati focusing on the good that connecting all of the cities assets with rail will spur.
Meanwhile the pro camp, the lawyers from Anderson Township focus on fear and confusion. They have no vision, no plans and are apparently against everything calling the leaders WE elected totalitarian, never mind the fact referendums are the preferred tool of despots, fascists and what the Enquirer calls 'mobocracy' and have rendered California a dysfunctional state.
Please, pro or con, look into what you believe and why before voting.

All that said I was highly surprised to see the Cincinnati Tea Party only endorses Issue #9 out of principal.
“we are not endorsing it without some reservations”
They endorse 9 because “We understand the pressure that local governments must feel to drink from the federal trough” and they're against that.
Seems to me they’re cutting off their nose to spite their face. But its not the wall of negativity we’re seen from the CAVE* men.

bet for a man and he's broke for an instance, teach a man how to bet and he's broke for life

My first experience with horse racing ever and like sushi I thought, why did I wait so long to try this. The thundering horses, the screaming crowd, I can see how people get addicted, it really was exhilarating. But I'm getting ahead of myself, it all started out tailgating in the parking lot, much like a football game, except instead of crazy team themed costumes, we people watched for their over the top fashions. And it began with us when the hats came out.
Thank god Kate brought that hot apple cider and bourbon, it was more than a little cool out there.

Growing up with friends on farms I had seen more than a few horses in my time, I was still blown away by how tiny these horses were, incredible, no wonder the jockeys have to be so small.

Seersucker after Labor Day? I could even give you to the end of the baseball season but come on. Plus no way did it fit, he must have picked it up at the thrift store on the way to the track.
