More thoughts on Obama

Obama @Fountain Square

I've been trying to get all my thoughts together on last night, so here in no particular order but grouped into what I liked and what I didn't.

I liked;
I’ve fought in the Senate to end tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas and give those tax breaks to companies that create good jobs here in America.
Very good idea, if simplistic.

..an America where we all have an equal chance to make it if we try. That’s the America I believe in.
Not the America everyone feels entitled too but the one you have to work for.

not that America is, but that America will be; not that we are perfect, but that we can make ourselves more perfect; that brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand, people who love this country can change it.
finally, a public servant telling us what we need to work for instead of what we're entitled too.

offer a $4,000 tax credit to make college affordable for anyone who wants to go
every little bit helps

Didn't;
When CEOs are making more in ten minutes than the average worker earns in a year
He wants government involved in how business's run their companies and how much salary they pay?
REALLY?

it’s about the responsibilities that corporate America has – responsibilities that start with ending a culture on Wall Street...that puts their bottom line ahead of what’s right
He knows that our retirements are tied up in Wall Street doesn't he?
He wants corporations to stop worrying about our investments?

Our CEOs have to recognize that they have a responsibility not just to grow their profit margins, but to be fair to their workers, and honest to their shareholders and to help strengthen our economy as a whole.
True, but shouldn't market forces do that?
Do we need the president involved?
And wasn't he just complaining that CEOs were too concerned about shareholders? Never mind, I just reread that.

...what he’s offering amounts to little more than the same tired rhetoric about vouchers. we need to move beyond the same debate we’ve been having for the past 30 years when we haven’t gotten anything done. We need to fix and improve our public schools, not throw our hands up and walk away...
But how much good money should we throw after bad? I think there needs to be more competition between schools. What if every kid had a voucher and picked his school, I bet they'd shape up fast and hire the best teachers.

    2 years later and I think all of your concerns are validated.
