the tweed ride
Ever since Harris Tweed invented tweed in the 1830s tweed has been the go to choice for leisurely pursuits such as hunting, golfing and...cycling! In the 1890s tweed became the go to gear for women to wear while bicycling as it was warmer than silk. Tweed finally fell out of favor when Tour de France riders stopped competing in full suits post WWII. Ex-military German scientists began inventing all kinds of crazy stuff like polyester and spandex and Dupont made a fortune selling it to cyclists.
Of course these days tweed has become a symbol of simpler times. And it showed on a recent annual tweed ride.
All I saw from cars and pedestrians were bright smiles.
