star cruisers and streetcars
What do they have in common? Nothing really except that in about six weeks the newest Star wars movie will debut and sometime really soon the first streetcar in 64 years will start rolling around OTR. I still remember as a 14 year old sitting in a dark theater when my seat started rumbling and that star cruiser flew in overhead I held my breath for an eternity, it felt like the end of the world. And it kind of was because because my view of the world changed forever.
The same thing is going to happen to Cincinnati sometime late next year, downtown, OTR and the rest of the city will never look the same again.
The first of Cincinnati's modern streetcars rolled off a trailer to a loud and enthusiastic cheer, and now that it is here I'm going to have even more trouble waiting for it to start operations. I'll try to be content watching it roll around OTR testing and burning in until it has enough mileage to begin operations.
Next September can't come soon enough.
We're making history man!
Everyone wanted a better view
Once it was underway behind a tow truck no one could contain themselves any longer, it reminded me of the end of the Northside 4th of July parade, everyone flooded into the street and followed the streetcar around the corner from Race St to Henry.
remember those halcyon days when Cincinnati had a rockstar mayor?
afterwards the father of the Cincinnati streetcar John Schneider tapped the first streetcar ale Ryed the Rail at Taft's Ale House.
