Pi Pizzaria

Pi Pizzaria doesn't serve up your average pizza, oh no.I had to ask them what the style was because it was nothing like any pizza I've had before.
Turns out it isn't strictly a St Louis style pizza but a hybrid St. Louis/California style. I loved the texture of the crust but I at first I had trouble wrapping my head around how dry the toppings were. Not that the toppings themselves were dry but the pizza had no runny tomato sauce like the Italian pizzas I grew up with in Youngstown. After trying three or four different types though I was really getting into them. Pi Pizzaria even has vegetarian and vegan options. Plus a wide selection of local and St. Louis beer. Did you figure out that Pi is based in St. Louis yet?

Pi has a pretty cool concept, a nice sleek interior and relaxed atmosphere. I kept thinking back a year ago I had wondered why no one had a pizza shop named pizza pi. But I would have named all the pizzas after mathematicians. The Turing pi, Newton pi, and of course the Euclid pi would be the grandaddy of them all.
When Pi is opening pizzerias all over the country why did they decide to open a location in Cincinnati? No matter what the mayor says it wasn't the Red Bike. Its because Cincinnati will soon have a streetcar stop right outside their front door.

Myrtle’s Punch House

In addition to a sneak peak of Myrtle’s Punch House last night we got an update on all the happenings going on in East Walnut Hills. It seems that Molly Wellmann's new place is leading the charge on a rash of new bars and restaurants. New Orleans To Go, the food truck serving authentic Louisiana Cajun and Creole cuisine is opening a brick and mortar restaurant called Mardi Gras on Madison. O Pie O baking pies at Findlay Market is setting down roots in Desales Corner. And of course the Growler House for beer and then whatever restaurant opens in the Bank Building. Desales Corner is soon to be a destination in its own right.
Someone mentioned to me how East Walnut Hills kind of exploded overnight. But I know better, just like every other overnight sensation there were many many people, among them the DeSales Corner Development Corporation who have worked tirelessly for years to make this happen.
To everyone who missed out on the goldrush in OTR, heads up, look a little east for the next big neighborhood.
Some shots from Myrtle’s Punch House, the grand opening is Novermber 28th, stop in and check it out.

Lightgeist @ Rhinegeist

a one-night exhibition of light and projected art at Rhinegeist
a high concept and for some of the installations, highly interactive art show centered around light and curated by NEAR*BY.
some of it pushed strong emotional buttons and some of it just pushed smiles as you interacted with it.
the crowd favorite it seemed was PlayCincy's giant light bright that drew everyone to it like moths to flames.

Huit

Eight, a lucky number in Asian culture. In numerology, 8 is the number of building. In the Middle Ages, 8 was the number of "unmoving" stars in the sky, and symbolized the perfection of incoming planetary energy.
Of course in Cincinnati Huit is a barbecue restaurant. Which made it even more intriguing when I saw people instagraming breakfast and I knew I had to try it out.
Now I live downtown but sadly, I work in Clifton which means I rarely get the opportunity to try many of the small downtown places that only remain open until 2 or 3pm weekdays. Last week Veterans Day provided the perfect opportunity to make a b-line to Huit to see what everyone was 'gramin about.
We got the monkey bread French toast and bacon. So good I can't wait for the opportunity to get back there and try lunch!

1708 Logan St

Once upon a time in OTR they were creating these awesome apartments and condos because they had too, there weren't many people who wanted to live there circa 2007-8. Fast forward a few years and each new development is a little more antiseptic than the last. The developers don't even have to try anymore, they're gonna sell/rent what ever they build.
Luckily for people willing to wait and dig a little there are small projects coming on line with 3 or 4 small apartments to a building.
1708 Logan St is one of those, a short walk across a parking lot to Findlay market and a streetcar stop. And full of character, they left as many details as they could and 1708 Logan St shines. This is the first place I've seen in awhile that made me think it would be cool to move into.
