art of the Flying Pig

This year the Flying Pig Marathon commissioned artwork to be placed along the marathon route. It was produced by Art in the Streets an organization whose mission is to encourage artists to create art in public spaces. Serendipity Director Margy Waller and Artist Pam Kravetz partnered on this new initiative.
What was really cool about the marathon installation is I know and am a big fan of almost all the artists involved.
The only downside for me was, because Art in the Streets needed permission from building owners, all of the art ended up out in the neighborhoods. But a downside for me is an upside for everyone else!

It is interesting how art changes in the lens of a camera, I couldn't figure this out looking at it, but when I saw the photo I got it instantly.

  1. We loved integrating arts and sports, and creating a surprising memory for runners, visitors, and Cincinnatians.

Happen-upon-art changes the way we think about place, and about streets. Streets become not just a place for cars, but public spaces for people to play and meet and connect. Big props to the Flying Pig Marathon team for supporting this idea - and to all the artists and building owners for jumping in with enthusiasm.

And thanks to you Bob for following the art marker route around town. #PastedPig
