Northside Fourth of July Parade

The funkiest parade in Cincinnati is the Northside Fourth of July Parade

Ran into some peeps I haven't seen in awhile and caught up

it was rainy then the sun popped out and we all got burned

but it was all OK because I got a burger from Cafe de Wheels and a Stome IPA from a beer truck

  1. Darn missed ya'll.
Our strategy is to park our butts farther north, near the beginning and in the shade, the paraders are fresher and not yet worn out and floats falling apart. At the end we join in and dance to the park. Very messy strategy this year due to the mobile watermelon smashing going on at the tail end.

This is the best parade in the Tristate, hands down, it eclipsed the Harvest Home, Opening Day and Bockfest parades a couple of years ago. Interesting in that the liberal stance of the community has pretty much run off the military posturing you see in most 4th parades, as well as many of the politicos, instead there is lots of local color, more eco oriented, even a 911 conspiracy group! The Northside community needs to be commended for hosting one heck of a show.

Local 12 News reporter Jeff Hirsh wrote it up yesterday and pretty says it best...

"There is a fine line between colorful and eccentric. The Northside 4th of July parade walks up to that line, and jumps over it with a vengeance: "If someone were to drop down from Jupiter, they'd probably be in the parade today. They'd probably feel right at home. Explain Northside? They'd probably feel like they were still in Jupiter."

Bob I do hope this is just the first installment of the parade pics because there has to be lot's more, this was just the beginning of the parade...

  2. This was the most unorganized parade of the 5 years I've been going, huge gaps in the action, we gave up at 2:30 and went drinking so I missed the last third of the parade.
Interesting how none of the radical right council people were there, guess they didn't want to walk the whole way getting boo'd.
I guess we'll have to go farther north next year.

  3. I agree, we were near the end of the parade and we didn't see the start until around 1:00. We left around 2:30 during one of the big breaks in the parade becasue our 1 year old wasn't taking the sun all that well. Fun parade up to that point, though. We'll probably go back next year and find a place a bit more to the start.
