The Del Mar Hotel
A little hotel in downtown Vancouver with two art installations seems relevant right now. It reminds me of the Anna Louise Inn and also Black Friday.
The owner, pressured over the years to sell the hotel to developers, resisted. Most people would take the money and run but Riste felt he needed to give back to society. He keeps the place clean and in good repair then rents rooms for as little as $25 a day to low income and needy people.
B.C. Hydro, who tried unsuccessfully to buy the inn ended up building around the Del Mar.
I wonder how that would play out in the US? Hell, in Cincinnati? Our current mayor would have had it bulldozed in a week.
