streetcar construction
Too bad the streetcar won't be done in time for the All Star Game.
This is at Main St. looking west down 2nd.

A prior box packaging company that has been for sale for a few months, 128 West Court Street seemingly disappeared right into its own basement. I've heard speculation an old beer cellar may have collapsed. Some of those cellars I've seen in OTR could easily swallow a building whole.
I've also heard from a couple guys that knew people looking to turn the building into a winery,
"They just got finished fixing up the massive refrigerators from the early 1900's when it was a poultry slaughter house. Damn shame it was super cool inside."
How amazing is it the building collapsed but these folded boxes didn't move?

...the message there is that faith in something that is not true, as long as it is faith in goodness, is worth the huge cover-up, while disbelieving leads to all types of evil behavior such as scooping pennies off the poor, scaring little children, and being a general stick in the mud.[where: 45202] best place to learn how to live downtown cincinnati ohio the ethos of Cincinnati

I never tire of these pictures, the first of Ms. 5chw4r7z's mom, and one of her aunt. Downtown Cleveland, I think it was Higbee's but I'm not sure.

I haven't been on Short Vine for awhile, the last couple times over the summer the street was undergoing a huge transformation. It looks to be almost complete. As I walked south on the street I was thinking about how cool it was they eliminated curbs and the street and sidewalk had only a color and material change to delineate the difference between the two. There some really cool benches and landscaping to go with it. This place is primed for street festivals.
I thought how cool is that? Maybe Cincinnati is finally getting it. The next block up I could see they were still working and had construction barriers up. But as I got closer they looked a little too formal for construction barriers. No. They can't mean to leave these things here can they?
The street is so cool and awesome on one block and horrendous on the next. It looks like a serious urban planner got the whole street right, and in the last minute someone higher up the food chain freaked out and had those ugly stone barriers placed everywhere.

Krueger's Tavern, located in the old Lavomatic space is the latest spot to eat on Vine St in OTR. I've gotten tired of gastropub so I'm creating a new term, OTR Style eatery. What is OTR Style? Take your average dish, every ingredient gets a high quality replacement. You can't imagine the surprise of biting into a Sloppy Joe, the texture of the Cole Slaw crunching, an artisan bun from Sixteen Bricks and tender meat with a little bite to it. We shared a sausage, Krueger's makes them in house, a burger and Sloppy Joe. Everything exceeded expectations, it was a mouth soiree.
And 88 varieties of canned beer which is where Krueger's sourced their name, Krueger was the fist company to successfully can beer.

I love living downtown. I think everyone knows that. But around the holidays I love it even more. For some reason Christmas and downtown just go together. Its probably all the old movies, and that I guess I'm old enough that at one point in time I remember if you wanted to see Santa it required a trip downtown. At any rate, we had a confluence of events Saturday where there was nonstop activity all day. With the raindog parade, Santacon and City Flea and I'm sure a bunch of other events it was a busy day.

I'm still amazed how different this building looks day to day and hour by hour. I'm still not sure if I love or hate the dunnhumby Centre Building, but I'm definately fascinated by the look. Everyone else I've talked to has strong feelings about it too, and there is no middle ground. But I'm thankful that dunnhumby didn't take a middle of the road approach on a building that would disapear after you looked at it once. The dunnhumby Centre grabs my eye everytime and I always have to stop and look. I didn't notice this until the other day, the 8th floor has a deck at 6th and Race and another at 5th and Race.
And we got most of our sidewalks back!

Originally built in 1901 Nippert has seen many changes over the years. Amazing story, James Nippert was injured during a game and later died, his grandfather, James N. Gamble of Procter & Gamble, donated the required funds to complete the stadium.
The stadium probably hasn't seen change like the changes happening now. Close up the new structure for the press and luxury suites is massive, more massive than they look from the usual vantage points across the field. Fun fact I learned, the official project cost is $85 million. But that was before the board of directors tacked on everything from their wish list so no one really knows what it is going to cost.
